    Aftermarket CPU Heatsink results.

So I've been freshening up my computer recently, adding a case fan, 4 more gigs of ram, SSD, and aftermarket cooler- and I wanted to share my results.

The cooler I chose was the Cooler Master Hyper n520:

After searching through many coolers and options, I settled on this one for price/user rating reasons. Not to mention I had a gift card from tg. Anyway long story short I was really pleased with the results over the stock amd cooler.

    Phenom II X2 unlocked to X4 @ 3.5ghz.

I made a fancy graph showing how quickly the temperature stabilized, and wow what a temperature difference. I only did a 5 minute occt run because I didn't want to push the cpu w/ stock heatsink much past 69c lol- and I was excited to install my new toy.

Stock coolers get the job done but a good number of aftermarket coolers can get the job done a lot better. i personally go with Zalman hsf's very quiet and a good deal more efficient at cooling.

Wow ha. What cpu do you run? the temps I got were with ~90-100% cpu load in a stress test. My Phenom II ran pretty cool before I unlocked it to quad core/clocked it higher. Also I disabled "cool and quiet"/epu so my processor is never downclocked.

Yeah, my stock cooler was plenty sufficient at stock speed and especially after disabling cool and quiet. Zalman was another brand I considered but this one at 30$ was definitely in my range hah.

Eh, 5 minutes of OCCT/LinX/IBT/Prime95 isn't enough. Every new system I build gets subjected to 12 hours of Prime95 and 50 successful passes of LinX.

On Intel i7 920/930 chips with high end air coolers (Thermalright), that ends up sitting around 70-80C. Good enough to be used as a space heater for a room, or to warm up a egg nicely! hahaha

What was the point of that, you're just wasting watts and generating excess heat when idle.

Phenom II X6 1100T. No overclocking (needed).

I get those temps when I play bad company 2 on max settings for about an hour, but the load goes up to about 40-50%. I should try running multiple apps at once

Just run P95 or OCCT, that will actually stress your cores. Playing BC2 is cake for a modern processor.

+1 on that one. Ever since I've been a computer guy I've always used Zalman heatsinks for everything. Great quality. Definitely worth the few extra bucks.

I have always been a fan of zalman, but I recently returned my zalman 9700nt as it was not adequate to cool my processor when overclocking. I swapped it out for the corsair H80 hydro series cooler.

I'm running the Zalman reserator, have been running it pretty much non stop since I purchased it in 2005, on computer number 2 now.

You must have one of the rare good units. I've read a lot about them failing in a matter of weeks due to weak pumps.
