Just what I am looking to buy,
ASUS M5A97 EVO Socket AM3+ 970 ATX AMD Motherboard $124.00
    &
    AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4GHz $129.00

8Gb of RAM and start with a Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 7,200 RPM SATA 6.0 and a SSD drive

560ti is more than sufficient for 99.8% of modern games, so for other applications it will pass in flying colors

Oh and I am running AMD processor and card with no regrets or complaints.
I could just run a OCZ Agility 3 SATA III 60 Gb SSD since I have 2.0TB NAS.
      The OCZ
Read Speed Up to 525MBps (SATA 6Gb/s); Up to 280MBps (SATA 3Gb/s)
Write Speed Up to 475MBps (SATA 6Gb/s); Up to 260MBps (SATA 3Gb/s)

I am still rocking the mobo that came with the package lol. It was $189 for the mobo and proc at Fry's since I didn't have any major needs for a better mobo. I mainly wanted the processor because it wasn't overly expensive and still good at encoding video. I wanted to make "copies" of my blu rays and encode them so they were still HD but not 33gbs a piece. That with a hyper 212 does a good job of cooling the proc even in the summer, granted it doesnt get too hot here by the ocean lol.

imho 60gigs is eh for W7+ 2 or 3 large programs that you use very often, but it should work

I have a Phenom II 955 x4 in my desktop and an i5-560m in my laptop. The i5 is almost at fast as the Phenom II yet it only has half the cores and is a mobile processor. Unless Bulldozer is a game changer my next desktop will have an Intel CPU.

I'd spend the extra $8 and get the Vertex 3 60GB.

I had several intel CPU's and they are overpriced.

I built a new PC a few months back based on a Gigabyte X58A-UD3R with an Intel i7 950 and its been a great system for the money. The CPU will run at 4.2 GHz without issue, scores about 12500 using the 64bit Geekbench. As a bonus it runs OSX without issue.
