You pay a monthly wiring fee that covers any issues related to outside wiring so give ATT a call. If it is an issue with the wiring going into the house, then they might replace the NID. If its an internal wiring issue (rats chewed on the lines or corrosion) then it will be up to you to fix. Try connecting the modem to another jack in the house and see if the noise goes away. It could just be a bad jack in the house too.

i guess it is possible to plug a filter in backwards i dont know if it matters though
if one were to plug the filter into the phones jack then run the wire from the filter to the wall but that is backwards

Do you have a phone near the modem? Move it away.
I had noise because an older phone was nearby. It could be a megahertz thing.
No problems since I got rid of the older phone; AT&T DSL has works very reliably for a few years now.sigpic
