    Tablet computing...

So, I've got an iPad Gen 1, but curious what other viable tablet options exist out there. I've seen some references to Samsung Galaxy, and I am aware there are others.

Who here is using a non-Apple tablet, what is it, do you like it, would you buy it again, what would you buy instead, etc?

Asus EEE Transformer. I don't have one, but I've read and watched a few reviews on it, all of them with pretty good ratings. It looks like an awesome tablet, with the Android 3.0 OS on it, and the ability to attach an external keyboard/touchpad to basically turn it into a regular laptop for those who hate touch screen typing (like me).

I was thinking of getting one if I find myself away from my desktop more often, but nothing I do right now justifies this purchase, or else I would have done it long ago.

I have an original iPad, iPad 2 and now an Acer A500 Iconia android tablet. I really like the iPads. iPad 2 has enough small changes to make it worth getting over an iPad.

I bought the Acer because I wanted to see how android was working out. My Wife has a Nook color that runs android 2. It was ok to mess with but not real impressive. The Acer is running honeycomb (android 3 for tablets). It has the same hardware specs as the Galaxy and the Xoom. It has a dual core 1Gig processor.

My first impression of it was that it was as fast and responsive as the iPad2. As with any new OS there is a learning curve. I am now fairly comfortable with this version of android and find that I really like the Acer. The 10.1 inch screen is real nice. It is a little heavier than the iPad but not significantly so. There are lots of apps and many different sourced for them.

I rooted the Acer as soon as I got it home. That was a amazingly simple 5 minute operation. None of my tablets have 3g, just wifi. That isn't a problem for me as my phone can become a hotsopt. The Acer has a vibration mode that gives you a little buzz when performing commands. At first I thought I was getting a little shock, then I figured out it wasn't a shock and was supposed to do that.

Overall with this version of android I prefer the Acer to the iPads. Android is different but a good OS. Using the Acer is more like a Windows type pc. You have USB in and out, SD slot, flash and other things not offered by Apple. I have a mini bluetooth keyboard that works with all of my tablets. That makes it much easier to type out long notes or emails. I went away from desktop computers several years ago. I now find that if I am going out and about the tablets are the way to go for portability.

I love my Iconia as well. Love the fact that it has a full sized USB port

By the way, you can disable the vibration for the soft buttons if you don't like it. I didn't like that feature and disabled it. Now it only vibrates when turning it on and off.

Now that I realize it's not shocking me I'm fine with it. The full size USB is real nice. The only thing bad about it right now is the lack of decent cases. But that is because it's so new.

I have an ipad 1st gen but my wife has the Motorola xoom and I absolutely love that thing it is by far superior to the ipad. Just the small fact that the xoom has adobe flash and the ipad does not is enough reason for me.

                  I have the Acer A500.
I really like the USB so I can use a thumbdrive or connect other devices.
Added a 16gb sd card for expansion.
Development tools are free (Epsilon), good for learning about how the applications work .

Volume control is a little difficult to use, but could be my fat fingers.
Was at Best Buy, looks like some cover options are out now.

Got the EEE transformer, only had it a couple hours. I like it controls are easy/responsive, feels solid.

Can't see any negatives so far except the screen is really reflective(you get to watch yourself) and it's a fingerprint magnet. But I think they all are like that.

I also have the Acer and really like it. Mostly use it for email, facebook, and websurfing which it does all of very well. Only issue I have so far is that I haven't found how to "select all" email messages. WiFi works well, love the fact that it has a full-size USB port built into it (no other Android tablet does). Apps for Honeycomb are starting to roll out, while there are currently more Apple apps I expect Android/Honeycomb to start ramping up pretty quickly. There are just too many people jumping on the Android bandwagon for the developers not to follow.

I almost bought another one that I could just mod, and have the other run a stable ROM.
