I doubt the drives are running at over 70c. I cannot even get the CPU in my T510 to get that hot when I have it and the GPU at full load.

They're great while they last. My 128GB Kingston lasted 6 months. The funny thing was it died 2 weeks after I watched a report on Tekzilla about SSDs failing. Kingston doesn't do advance replacement but they overnighted the replacement once they got the old one and since I have drive images I was back up and running within 2 hours of getting the replacement.

The key to making them last is to minimize writes. Get databases, data files, and swap files off the SSD and keep those on a conventional hard drive. FWIW he's an SSD tip page from Lifehacker.

have fun only having 100k rewrites before you make it an expensive paperweight.

This is less of an issue than most people realize, especially with modern wear leveling algorithms. That 100k P/E (Program/Erase) rating is also the minimum that the chips are guaranteed to last for, in practice they often last much longer. Every SSD on the market is also guaranteed to retain your data for at least a year after the write cycles are expended, so you can save your data. Most of the SSD failures that have been reported have been either on early generation drives, or ones that have been heavily abused. Pretty much all of the people I have seen complaining that their drives have died are people who constantly benchmark them, which puts a lot of strain on the chips. But drive failure is not much of an issue if you keep backups since SSDs typically have a 5 year warranty.

Somewhere around here I have a GeForce 2-Ultra.

I really need to upgrade. Need a new video card, but my mobo is AGP 4x.

I was thinking about getting one for my PS3, but found out the SATA bus is slow and thus there is virtually no advantage over a 7200rpm laptop HDD(in fact the regular HDD has the only advantage - price!).

Yep, every time the machine comes out of standby the power on count goes up one. Been using it a lot at school.

Maybe they're still using 1st or 2nd gen drives?
