    TV's

    Plasma, LCD, LCD/LED.

    what are the differences?
my old RCA big screen seems to have taken a dump, is it worth repairing?
    or should I go new?

all are great TV's depends on what your going to be using it for and the layout/ lighting of your room.

what are you planning to use it for. Sports, family, pc monitor ect.

What type of lighting / ambient light?

The LED LCD's are some of the best flat screens you can get, just look at all the numbers the higher they are the better the pic. Stay away from plasma as they can show electrical interference and only last a short time. I really like my new TV found here :http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...&condition=new Best TV for the money IMHO

Plasmas have good color but die quicker.
LCD uses less power and last longer.
LCD/LED have a really crisp picture and last longer.

My 52" Sharp LCD is 8 years old and works great. Never had a problem.

Sharp and Sony have great TV. Mostly you need to go to a store and see the differences as it's what your eyes see is how you decide what is good for you.

I've heard of some defects in the older models. Diodes, power supplies and wiring problems. They may have better TV's now.

Get a LED as LCD/LED are very expensive.

I have a 40" that I bought for work, it's flawless. I also have an older standard LCD Samsung as well. I'm a big fan of Samsung's products.

Might as well get a Vizio for that budget. A decent TV that will do the job and they're pretty reliable as well.

Maybe look into LG? I have a LCD tv by them for my room. I think it's 27" since I'm sitting 2-3 feet away from it haha but I'm very happy with the quality and especially the price! Take a gander at some at Best Buy (I bought mine through Adorama.com)

Watch the deal sites for hot deals. For example a quick peek on Techbargains found a Samsung LN40C530 for $555 at buy.com with free shipping. You'll pay sales tax but a 40" 1080P LCD for $600 shipped including tax is a good deal. Amazon has a 42" Visio for %580 shipped. Neither will do 3D.

Best bang for the buck is a plasma. The new generations of the plasmas don't have all the cons they had when they first came out. That goes for LED's too.
