Blogging websites? Who needs stinking blogging websites? Those are boring.

Actually, there's a lot of choices, but you'll never know unless you try. The good thing about the interweb is that you can always change your site to your liking and it's especially more flexible when you own the domain.

Do the B&M (also called scrap *****ing) thing and see how you like it, but I do recommend starting off with a domain name off the bat.

A continuing commentary on life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness … and one more voice in the wilderness of ideas. Now with even more wilderness!

Another vote for Wordpress hosted on your own hosting. I used GoDaddy. I also use a theme on top of wordpress which I then tweaked a little. You can see it here. http://www.shezphoto.com

Wordpress also has plugins to extend the capabilities of the software to add things like statistics, links to social networks and the ability for users to promote your content to Digg and Stumble, the ability to add widgets etc. All in all it is really the best blogging platform out there. Shoot, even CNN uses it albeit with a very custom theme on top of it.

I suggest dreamhost for your own hosting & domain. It's very inexpensive.

What I really, really like is their control panel. It's very user friendly and much better, imo, than "Fantastico". Wordpress is a 1-click installation.
