    Blogging Websites

    So I'd like to start my own gun blog. I tried Tumblr, but it sucks. What do you guy use/recommend?

    I think wordpress.com does a pretty good job.

      If you're really serious get your own domain, hosting service, and run the Wordpress platform.

        Yeah - right after I posted that it occurred to me that I don't know what the terms of service are for wordpress.com, and I wouldn't be shocked if they're not 2A friendly, and wouldn't hide behind some BS "no violence" clause in their TOS if someone complained about your blog. Not saying they would, either, but if you care a lot about the project, maybe talk to GeoVario, they host CGN for free and have relatively cheap hosting packages.

            Dang, I didn't think I'd get this many responses! lol.

            I wasn't thinking about getting my own domain yet, just a site that I can rant about guns and what not. The thing is, now I am thinking about starting a site.

            I could start with a simple wordpress I guess, but if I wanted to get a full on site going how much does that cost outside of hosting? Are we talking like $50, $100, $500?

              1. Get the domain. They're cheap and you'll be better off in the long run. Domains can also be sold if you grow tired of it.

              2. What do you want your "Site" to do and how will it relate to the blog?

              3. Depending on how fancy you want your site to be the rates will increase. As for hosting, general hosting is affordable. It's when you add eCommerce needs and other fancy stuff that the pricing starts to rise.

                I pretty much just want a site to complain about gun laws and politics. Like standard blogging.

                  I've ran my gun blog through wordpress.com for the last 4 years. Get a domain, go for wordpress.org. That's what I would do if I had to start all over.

                  wordpress.com = free. domain name = $15 a year.

                      So, you really just want a blog then. I regard a blog to be a blog, and a site to be other things.
                      If that's the case, then you can just follow Derek/PackingRat's suggestion. It's the quick win easiest way to start right now.

                          Here's a more complex example of what you could do with your own domain, hosing, and wordpress. http://www.itstactical.com/

                          Blog, Community Forum, and eCommerce

                          But, yeah... If you just want to B&M about stuff, then a blog like http://thepackingrat.net/ is cheap and easy.

                            I'm on wordpress and I have a few gun related posts and nothing happened to me. I'm not real popular on there I just started like last week, I got a pro 2A comment from someone so I think wordpress is ok with firearm related topics. I'm also surprised I actually have some people viewing my blog. I tried blogging years ago and no one saw my blog so I gave up on it so to see even a very very small amount of people looking at my posts is nice.
