    I traded because my family doesn't have the extra money to go out and buy a new computer. I'm in the process of getting on with the sheriff's department but the wait has been a lot longer to to the economy.
    I'm lucky enough to have my old Dell right now though.

        I plugged it into a mon and it came back on

                It's the inverter, those are usually pretty easy to swap out. You can get a new one on eBay for around $20. Instructions on replacing it should be online, just do a Google search for that model laptops service manual or a site where someone goes through the steps. The inverter should be under the plastic bezel that goes around the outside edge of the display.
