I don't think 4am will get you a good place in line. There are crazy/dedicated people out there that are willing to camp out the night before in line. Think Black Friday lines in front of Best Buy, only it's the summer time so it'll be warmer, and in front of Apple and AT&T stores.

Anyone who is willing to camp out for a device that will be outdated in 2 months is nuts. I'll wait till the craze is over and get one then.

Yeah my buddy said he was going to stop by at 6am, an hour before work to try to get a phone, I told him good luck as people camp out overnight, I wish I could have my iPhone in hand so I could eff with all the people waiting lol, but I wont have mine till sometime that day, when ever FedEx delivers.

Outdated in two months? How so when Apple wont even release the actual 4g 4th gen iPhone till sometime in 2011?

What I think is funny is the people who don't want to get locked into a contract.

Say you got stuck wtih the entire $175 early termination fee, you don't think you could find someone who wanted to buy your used iPhone4 off you for $175 in a heartbeat?

Unless you completely trash it, you are good to go, no risk.

They day Verizon or Sprint release a network that is superior to the AT&T 3G network *and* have a sweet device that can leverage it, I'll be first in line. Until then, i'm in queue for an iPhone 4!

The OS4 is available for download now? That is cool, maybe it will leave the system less busy in the upcoming days.

I got an email the 19th saying it was in Shenzen China, then to Lantau Island Hong Kong and now it is in Anchorage Alaska released from int'l shipment. Getting pretty excited here, this crappy Blackberry is caveman status!

I'm debating what to do. I have a 3GS and I can't buy anything at subsidized prices till July 2011. If I decide that the new features are worth it, I may cancel and renew my contract, or something, I dunno. $700 for a phone (even without a contract) is pretty ridiculous.

However, I am one of these geeks that use mine so much every day... and I use the video and camera a lot. Hrmmm...

I guess the only thing about canceling is that you'll be on the limited data plan and the cancellation fee of $175 or whatever makes it still nearly the same as the unsubsidized price. Maybe I can get someone to use their upgrade for me.

You don't have to cancel and renew, you just won't get the best price for the upgrade.

Oh I know, but apparently it breaks down like this for those that aren't eligible for an upgrade:

                            1) cancel and get subsidized price: $175 cancellation + $399 phone + being locked in to 2 year contract = $575
                            OR
                            2) buy unsubsidized phone and not extend contract = $699

Screw that, it's not worth that much $ when I already have a 3GS with a contract that won't allow a "cheaper" upgrade. I'm a geek but I'm not a moron. The bigger battery and better camera is all I'll miss I guess.

That is what would be the deal breaker for me. I would hate having to worry about usage. With all the large data coming down the pipe (video chat, netflix, pandora running in the background) I don't want to have to think about usage.

Thankfully I am grandfathered in from my 3G.

BTW: iOS4 makes my phone feel much snappier, even on a 3G which ran super slow before.

Yeah I can't tell a big difference on my 3GS really, it's just as quick as ever, maybe a tiny smidge faster but I dunno.

Multitasking is fine, although I never really thought it a big deal. I played around with the backgrounder app on my jailbroken phones and it was seldom used. I used it mostly to background the downloading of other jailbroken apps that were huge. I guess I'll use pandora or last.fm more often in the car now because of it.

I think the best thing for me is you're not limited to just 1 microsoft exchange server email account, so now I can have my google apps and gmail account messages pushed to the phone.
