They say if you upgrade to the 4g you keep your unlimted data. The change is only to new customers

i went to att today and they said the only part that i could carry over is my voice plan not the data. which doesnt make sense. since you have to have a bundled plan for the iphone and its not like its something separate. i hope you can carry over because i have the original iphone and the origanal unlimited plan.

I have the 32gig 3Gs and the "unlimited data" plan. I suspect that they will require me to give up the data plan in exchange for the newer phone, and that is a deal breaker for me.

I also saw the "IOS4 Upgrade" (coming soon). It LOOKS like it will install a new OS on the 3Gs, giving some of the capabilities, such as multi-tasking and more. That is enough for me, but even at that, if they want to kill their original deal with me (unlimited data) they can keep the whole thing. The new phone doesn't offer enough to make me give up my data plan, only to be raped out of cash, 200 MB at a time.

How much data is 200MB on an iPhone anyways? What if I mostly just use it during lunch and breaks and the occasional weekend at grandmas. And I dont really download videos either. Probably Cal Guns surfing mostly. Will I go over 200MB or am I better off with the 2GB plan?

Its been stated they will carry over existing unlimited data plans. But we know how that can go..

Wrong - Verizon just updated their data plans not long ago. They actually Force people to the unlimited plan. Cause a huge stink on the verizon support forums from all the idiots who want smart phones to look cool - but not to actually use smart phone features.

They require data packages of different levels depending on the phone you have. If you have a simple phone, you don't need one - all the way up to the $30/month data plan required for the droid. (or more if you have a 'corporate' account).

I would find it VERY hard to swallow if they tried to go back and change their pricing plans again. They just did this before the release of the droid...

Sounds like my usage, I've never used more than 150 MB.

I've yet to go over 400mb. But I'll keep my unlimited, the way I figure its better to have it and not need it than need it and pay through the butt for using the extra mbs. Who knows I might just want to watch some Netflix, or stream HD radio.

me and my wife have the shared plan. and the most weve used so far is maybe 1gb, maybe. so 2gb isnt bad. but i think with all the new features and video chat its probably gonna be close if not mor than 2gb for people that actually use there phones
