I absolutely hate(d) UAC. It was one of the reasons I went back to XP after trying Vista right after it was released. It would pop up pretty much every time I tried to do anything on the computer. I found the constant nagging and pausing incredibly annoying.I think one feature of Vista/7 that has been greatly overlooked is UAC.

Whenever you see UAC popup, double check what you're doing and/or what program is requesting for permissions. If you're on some pr0n site and UAC is requesting permission, chances are, it's spyware. If you're installing some legitimate software and UAC is requesting permission, it's probably legitimate.
I tend to disable real-time scanning of viruses on my computers (for speed considerations) and rely on UAC to red-flag any malware.
I am very happy there is an option to completely disable it in Windows 7.Comment

So far this combo has worked for me,
Norton 2010 with fullprotection on, Malwaybytes with the option to auto block websites and images coming from malicious sites. Also Each week I run a scan with Spybot and CC.
Norton runs scans while my PC is on standby each night.

You could disable it in Vista too, however its good to leave it enabled since it does offer more protection. Also doesn't pop up nearly as much in 7 as it did in Vista.I absolutely hate(d) UAC. I use spybot and spywareblaster in addition to Firefox for browsing. For antivirus I use AVG. I've also installed Window's Defender and for the past several years I have not had issues with any of the machines I have at home.
The main thing is you have to make sure you've got the lastest updates for spybot and spywareblaster otherwise it will be useless. Window's Defender and AVG automatically update when your computer connects to the internet.
I have 5 machines at home (all used by different people) all running XP and all configured with AVG, Spybot, Spywareblaster, Firefox and Window's Defender and no major issues.Ray
