Oh All my computers/ laptops run Win 11. Due to my business, I have way more computers than most people. I actually prefer Win 10, since Win 11 is too nosy show my recently used, suggestions, etc.. and want me to use online user log in and what not. This is extremely annoying/ inconvenient when using in public, or sharing computers. iCloud for my phone is great. iCloud equivalent for PC is not.
I just want to upgrade some of older machines for old people I know. They only check emails and facebook, and youtube videos. The reason for upgrading is to keep security updates coming. We don't care about new features.Comment

In that case, I'd like to second the Linux suggestion. I've taken plenty of what we would call "older" computers and put a Linux distro on them for people. Works great. For email, any Web surfing (e. g. Facebook, Twitter/X, YouTube), and even office productivity, I would now suggest either Debian or Ubuntu. I actually find Debian slightly easier to maintain even than Ubuntu (long story why), but either one is fine and easy both to set up and use.

I built a Debian box for some neighbors, an older couple. Since she's accustomed to Windows 7, I used the LXQT desktop. It looks very similar to Microsoft Windows and is clean, lightweight, and functional. Basically, it "just works". Keeping it updated is easy, since there's a nice GUI tool to do it. And, of course, "apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade" from the terminal window always works, too. The computer is an older AMD Phenom with 16GB DRAM. Obviously older technology, but it's actually a little overpowered for what they do, namely what you've stated above. YouTube videos play just fine on it.
I had my Dad on CentOS until his death. He was just fine with it."San Francisco Liberal With A Gun"

To be a true Liberal, you must be 100% pro-Second Amendment. Anything less is inconsistent with liberalism.Comment
