The printer I do the test sheet on is one where we may have 0 printouts for a month or two...I think that's why it ran into the issue..no amount of "deep cleaning" was able to fix it once it got to the dried out point.

Anyone who uses ink printers from any manufacturer is, well, let's just say they're clueless. The purpose of ink printers is not so that you, the consumer, can actually print stuff. the purpose of ink printers is to sell naive people ink cartridges. If you actually want to print stuff buy a laser printer.

I've had good luck with DIY refills. I don't print very often, and its nice to have top quality when I do. Eventually something gums up and no cleaning or water will fix it, so I buy another $150 printer every 4-6years.
