We use the bigger corporate hp printers and they have an option in there to turn that nag off saying some crap about off brand toner?s could ruin the print quality or some such nonsense.

Have thought about switching from inkjet to laser.

Do lasers ever have issues with print heads clogging or otherwise going bad? Or don't they have print heads?

      As do inkjets.

I don't know what laser jets use, but they don't clog like inkjets. They can just sit there until needed.

So it seems that lasers are better even for home use. Much more economical per page. Perfect for the occasional documents or quick basic photos.

My inkjet will clog if not used a couple times a week greatly increasing its cost since too much expensive ink is used to clear the printheads.

Ink jets only for those who will print on photo quality paper.

It seems even if you are stuck with the manufacturer's toner cartridges it turns out to be much cheaper than ink jets.

I've seen quality lasers for sale cheap at the local school district and city surplus auctions. Toner cartridges as well.

I moved to a Canon laser printer years ago and have not regretted it one bit. I use generic toner cartridges and they function just like the factory cartridges. On a factory cartridge, I get 5000+ pages and on the generic, I probably get slightly less. Like maybe 4500 pages.

I bought a Canon ImageClass D570 from Amazon for $100. It is $130 right now. It was $180 last night. The price fluctuates a lot and I grabbed one at a good time.

The Canon 137 toner cartridge for the D570 is around $70. The generic version could be as low as $40 for a pack of 4. If each one is good for 2400 pages as advertised, that would make it 9600 pages for about $40.

I came to the same conclusion as you did about inkjet printers. The reason why I stuck with my previous inkjet printer was because that one cost only $30, and at the time, laser printer was not as low as $100.

I can post some links later. I am on my iPad and can’t post links from amazon app for some reason.

                edit:

Cheapest generic toner for D570: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07YW4NN4J

This seems to be the cheapest Canon color laser printer: https://www.amazon.com/Canon-Color-i...dp/B0BSMJM9W1/

The problem with this cheaper color laser printer is the cost of a set of toner, around $140 for the cheapest generic.
