    generic toner for laser printer

    I bought a Canon D570 laser printer because I'm tired of paying $0.10 per page in ink cost. That's the average cost if one buys factory ink. I tried generic ink but they always end up killing my printer or my printer refuses to work with them.

    Has anyone used generic laser toner before? Are they good? Do they kill printers or do printers refuse to work with them? Generic toner, if working as advertised, could bring the cost down to $0.005 per page.

    there are different types i needed some for my lexmark and found out it was the same powder a sharp uses and i happened to have a toner cartridge for some reason from a sharp so after dissassembling them on a newspaper i was able to put the sharp gunk in the lexmark cartridge and i only barely ended up looking like a coal miner

      I've been using cheap amazon toners the last few years for a Canon and Brother. Doesn't last as long, but for the price, it was more than enough.

      Didn't notice any more issues than using factory brand toners.

        Yeah at work we use it all the time for Brother and HP printers. No issues.

          I have a Brother MFC-L8900CDW Business Color Laser All-in-One Printer. I use GPC Image Compatible Toner Cartridges. So far no problems with printing or damage to the device. I did have a Cyan cartridge spring a leak and was dumping powder all over. It was a pain to clean up. I need to get one of those tiny vacuums.

            Generic toner for a black and white printer has worked well for me (for years) on Brother and HP printers. But on a color printer (Epson & HP), generic COLOR toner (not ink) gives poor coverage. For a color printer, OEM works best.

              I've used various Brother laser printers over the years and always bought generic toner after the factory one ran out. Never had an issue - just need an occasional shake before use as they often sit on the shelves for while.

                I use it on my HP. I tried one, it was not good, bought another brand and have no issues. Trying to figure it out might take a time or two. It did for me, but still paid less than half of OEM.

                  Ink cartridges that are not the same as your printer often do not work because the ink cartridges have a chip in them that has to match the printer. Laser printer cartridges can be any ole generic type. I found a place online in LA for my cheap Brother (great) laser printer. New laser cartridge has enough toner to last forever. With shipping was about $40

                    Not true. My HP printer had a firmware version that didn't let you use off brand laser cartridges. I had to down grade the firmware and lock any automatic updates.

                      Thanks guys! Looks like I should have jumped to laser years ago. Interesting how ink cartridges have embedded chips but laser toner cartridges don?t.

                      I bought this laser printer to replace my old ink jet printer that I bought for $30. A single Canon black ink cartridge for that printer costs $18, and only good for 100 pages. The laser printer is black only, but I have not had a need to print anything in color for years.

                        To me, HP firmware blocking is extortion. Not American spirit free enterprise.

                          I have an HP All in one at work, ad when the company decided spending needed cutting I switched to the Staples brand Cartridges. Only issue I have with mine is that the printer knows its generic. It won't show level for it and it complains about it being generic.

                            I've had good results with an HP laserjet, my go-to site;

                              It's hilarious when your company wants to cut spending and tells you to downgrade the firmware and turn off automatic updates on their company issued HP printers (to allow generic cartridges).

                              For that reason, I avoid having HP printers at home (or family residences).
