Aging eyes have caught up with time and are about to overrun me. A new, bigger, better monitor is in order.

This will be for a business application, specifically accounting. That means screens contain a lot of alphanumeric data, including small tabs and dropdown boxes with multiple selections. The various application software is either in the cloud or installed on the machine.

The current monitor is a run of the mill Samsung 24" 1920x1080 (max resolution) at 60p Hz. The machine is a run of the mill HP Intel Core i5 8500 @ 3.00GHz with Intel UHD Graphics 630 (HP).

So I need something bigger with higher resolution. That should solve the problem. It looks like the next step up is 27". I don't know if that is enough or if size makes the difference.

There seem to be other factors, refresh rate, response time, panel type & aspect ratio. I see there is a 4k resolution option, but I don't know what's important, what's not and what goes with what.

I'm willing to spend maybe up to $600 if that's reasonable for my needs.

I am using a NEC multiSync 27" right now. It's one of their higher end models due to its color accuracy (I do photography and Photoshop).

I have no problems reading numbers and text with it, including Excel spread sheets. I do wear glasses but can read the screen easily for short periods without them.

4K would be ideal, but good ones are pricey. For your use, I wouldn't worry too much about refresh rate or response time (gamers--yes). Be sure to get a matte screen to cut down on reflections. If color accuracy is a big deal for you, you'll need a monitor you can calibrate and the additional colorimeter and software. That said, on-screen controls should be adequate to adjust brightness contrast and color. Some monitors have built-in calibration capability.

One mistake people make is their monitors are too bright and contrast is set too low--this is very hard on your eyes.

I have had excellent service with my NEC--many thousands of operating hours, and NEC's tech support is excellent, as well.

currently you can get regulars 32 inch 4k monitor for real cheap.
but you need keep multiple excel open, ultrawide monitor maybe better

you can often just use a tv depending on if you are hdmi or vga only difference is a monitor generally has angle adjustments but a tv has sound so you got that going for ya

Check your computer?s output to verify if it uses HDMI or DisplayPort video output or both, and look for a monitor to match. Our docking station (used with laptop to provide additional USB ports) also has both types of video output, which permitted some flexibility when it came to choosing a new monitor.

I went from a 24" to a 32" curved. Day and night difference. Try not to over think it, it's just a monitor.
I ended up getting a AOC C32G2ZE 32" Curved Frameless Gaming Monitor, Full HD 1920x1080, VA, 0.5ms 240Hz. It looks great and 32" screen is just right for me,
not too big or small. ~$280

Bigger better is not a great idea since most will have extremely large resolutions and everything will look small. Going to a higher resolution will make things too blurry.

My eyes are aging as well. Go with nothing less than 36" UHD. You won't be able to use 4K resolution even on a 40" monitor. I have a 43" 4k LG at work but prefer my 36" UHD at home.

Do you know if HDMI will support 4k?

Depends on your graphics card in your computer but yes HDMI supports 4K and greater if you use the proper cables (they are dirt cheap, nothing fancy, but check the specs). If you don?t have an HDMI output but instead a Display Port, you can get cheap adapters to convert it but again check the specs.

Older guys at work love the 32” Samsung monitors with the 2K resolution. Model SD850 if I remember.

I use a 43? Samsung 4K TV that I chop up into 4 virtual monitors.

In the fab shop we run the 43? TVs for computer monitors but some of the guys increase the zoom a little bit to 150% or more.
