    Need a new laptop - WIN7 Possible?

We need a new laptop. Found out that they come with WIN11 now. Despise WIN10, guessing WIN11 is an even bigger abortion. Is it possible to purchase a brand new laptop and then install WIN7?

Please get off of windows. If you have to have something other than Linux at least get a Mac.

You would have to do one of two things: Format the new drive and then install Win 7 and the Win 7 device drivers, or setup the machine to dual boot Win 11 and Win7. I have not done a dual boot, so can't comment how well that would work.

That said, once you have the new machine in hand, hit up the computer websites to see if there will be any incompatibilities between your specific laptop and the Win 7 device drivers. At least theoretically they should work, but best to check it out first.

      Good luck, sir!

Yes you can install Win 7 but there are security considerations you should know. Support for Windows 7 ended in 2020. That means no new security patches since then. If your Win7 machine is going to be off-line and not on a network with other machines that are on-line, then you are safe. But if you are going to go on-line with it or it is connected to a network with other machines that go on-line, then it will be a gaping security hole.

Think of it this way, every new vulnerability that has come up since the last security patch for Win7 will be a vector of attack on your computer. That will never change.

If you do plan on going on-line then I would strongly recommend you consider a Linux distro that is currently being maintained. If you still want to use Win7 you can install it in a virtual machine and remove its Internet Access. You could still run all of the Win7 software that you want on the virtual machine.

There is also the probability there are no Win 7 device drivers for a new laptop. Chipset, sound, video, NIC, etc.

I upgraded my Toshiba Satellite W7 laptop with an HP Pavillion W11 laptop

Really had no choice, but it's a better setup (I’m a W7 fan too)

it wouldnt be smart to wipe 11 and replace with 7 for many reasons.

you can make 11 look and act like 7 just like you could do the same with windows 10.

Spread the loveSome nifty tricks to make your Windows 11 interface resemble Windows 7, making your transition to the new operating system to be a smooth one. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to make Windows 11 look like Windows 7: 1. Customize your taskbar: The taskbar is arguably one of the most noticeable differences between Windows 11 and Windows 7. Luckily, the taskbar’s design is customizable, and you can easily configure it to look like the one in Windows 7. Start by right-clicking on the taskbar and selecting “Taskbar settings.” Under the “Taskbar behaviors” tab, turn off the […]

With a Mac laptop, is it true that one is required to have an account with Apple in order to remove and install s/w like one of those iphones?

The last Intel chip was the Skylake processor i5 6500 from around 2018. The HP laptop models were 840G3, 1040 G3

                    This.
I tried to install Win7 on my fathers I7 back in...2017, I think. It wouldnt. Wouldnt install because it didnt have drivers for the mobo, controllers, and drivers for those didnt exist for Win7.

Or multi boot with W7 and W11 are side by side, if that?s possible these days.

This. I had some CFD software that I wanted to use for a small project that wasn?t worth paying for an upgrade. I created a virtual machine and loaded a copy of Windows 7. The CFD software worked adequately.

Win 11 is win 10 (basically ) except MS is more aggressive about asking you sign into a MS account.

Not sure what about the idea of Win 11 bothers you. Win 10 is on the way out soon anyways. If you don’t like the idea of Win you should probably be looking at a different OS.

As for Win 7, i don’t think it’s a great idea to run any older version (unsupported ) of windows. There are too many security risks.

You?d need an apple account to download anything out of the App Store. All downloads are tied to your account.
