Wow, laptop replacement screens are CHEAP! :)

Impact seems to have killed about a 2 square inches worth of pixels along top right of screen on $700 (when new 2021) laptop.

I was thinking "if new screen is more than 700/2 I'll make this (my newest by far) unit a new mini-desk top with big monitor".

Acer Aspire 5 A515-56T-574E, 15.6" Full HD IPS Touch Display, 11th Gen Intel Core i5-1135G7, Intel Iris Xe Graphics, 8GB DDR4, 512GB NVMe SSD, WiFi 6, Fingerprint Reader, Backlit Keyboard /Acer/ASPIRE~5~A515-56~SERIES/

Turns out screens are well under $100, and they make it look easy, and even 'up grades'.

Any tips besides the Youtubes on replacing screen? Seems the main issue is finding an exact replacement. Got open request to seller and sent Serial Number pics etc.

Just go slow, don't bend them. Pay close attention to the wire routing, any extra ground wires screwed in. Some monitor cables press in to the motherboard. Make sure its nice and tight. Take lots of pics as you disassemble the old one so you know how to route all the wires.

thx, alum frame was slightly bent but I bent it more or less back straight and screen has pretty much same pixel outage, so I'm confident new screen will work.

Decade or more ago, I was sold "extended warranty" on a laptop on the hook that "if the screen goes out it will cost more than the laptop", but I was dumb and in great need of new PC and didn't do homework.

I'm trying to sus out just how exact the new screen needs to match, does it need to be exact cert for my exact model down to last ".....-574E" spec or would any 56T Aspire 5 work fine?

The labor is where they get you in that situation. If you can do it yourself they're very cheap to replace. I learned how to do screen and keyboard on an Asus ROG from YouTube a few years back.

Spend $40 and get a decent electronics repair kit. This one that I use. I have taken apart and repaired a few things with it including my laptop. You may not need of of those bits but it is better having them than needing them. The plastic pry bars are nice to have when taking things apart so you are less likely to break stuff.

Get a matte screen. The reflections in a glossy screen will drive you nuts.

I'm also getting TWO other issues:

1)Sometimes mouse pad and normal Bluetooth mouse works fine, but SOMETIMES its all hinky with mouse jumping around screen and kinda but not really responding or other pointer that just sits and the working one got lines through it like its 1/2 there.

2)So I figured I'd plug into an external monitor and I'm getting only "No other monitor detected". No diff if laptop screen is closed physically.

I guess I'll go through with $100 DIY replacement but are those issues constant with laptop SCREEN damage or do I got other problems?

All I'm seeing is lame stuff for normal "use external monitor if laptop screen broken".

BTW, here is some maybe useful info from Amazon chat bot....

              "Hi dear,
Thank you very much for your message.
Could you please tell us the specific model of your original screen for confirmation?
If you have not separate the screen out from your laptop, then you can please search the "AIDA64" or "HWiNFO64" software and download it on Google that it is a streamlined Windows diagnostic and benchmarking software for engineers.
And please provide us with the information page you obtained for a correct offer.
Thank you in advance for your understanding and help.
Waiting for your reply, really sorry for the trouble caused.
              Best regards,
              LCDOLED"

EDIT: looks like crazy mouse is common with busted screen, but still wondering about inability to port to external monitor.
i recently cracked my laptop screen from it falling on the floor, and now my cursor keeps on glitching over the screen, i have disabled the touchpad and touchscreen, yet it still happens. please help

Hopefully it's as simple as removing the front bezel, unscrewing the screen, unplugging it, and placing the new one in.

Is it a touchscreen? If so a cracked screen could mess with any other mouse controls.

I have an Acer Aspire 5 A515-54G too. Had to replace the system fan not too long ago. I'd recommend replacing that too when you have your laptop apart.

yeah, its Touch, and mouse has crazy dopplegangers. It seems like when on Star Trek they are 1/2 through transporting someone, during a Time Storm.

Uhg, got new Touch Screen for only $100 but can't get the LCD clip back into the slot and its got a wire saddle clip that I can't remember which side it was on, so it looks like I'm be taking this "basket case" in a box to some local shop and have them do it before I screw it up.

NEVER MIND, watched some more Youtubes and got it back together and working!
