    Changing your IP Address?

Long story short, I got banned on a news site for getting into in with some Leftist agitators and I want back in. It appears that they may have banned my IP Address as I tried to reregister using a different email address and username but am blocked from posting as any comments I attempt say "Pending" and get no replies/interest.

How do I go about changing my IP Address to circumvent being blocked and are there any drawbacks to doing this re: email delivery etc.? Router is an ASUS RT-ACRH17.

    Use a VPN.

But many VPN sites appear to be known, and some software is configured to exclude known VPN IPs.

Not 100% sure on this but your IP is assigned by your ISP.

You MAY be able to get a new one by resetting your router back to factory default settings and going through the whole setup process over again. MAYBE.

Also keep in mind it might just not be IP being tracked... otherwise using a proxy server should hide your IP from the site. It might also keep off a buncha stuff like device ID and stuff. Have you tried a proxy server?

I am not an expert on this stuff but FWIW I did find a way to get around a reddit ban was to use ghost browser. Reddit perma-bans are generally pretty hard to defeat but ghost browser seems to defeat it pretty easily.

Also clear cache and cookies. A site can read your machine name with the cookie, and that can be banned as well.

Unplug your cable modem for 4-8 hours. You most likely will get a new IP when reconnected.

IP address is associated with your device.

If you used a phone to sign up before, use a PC now. Or the reverse.

Once registered it might let you continue on the blocked IP device, or not...

Clear cookies on the blocked device first anyway.

Use a VPN, easiest way to go. Also only ever use a browser in incognito mode when you visit that site, so they can't store any identifying cookies on your browser.

You could also use your hotspot on your phone if you have a laptop to connect to it over wifi.

If you really want to try and change your IP, see if your router/firewall allows you to change the MAC address on the outside interface. This may cause the ISP DHCP server to issue you a new lease with a different IP.

You could also try shutting down your cable modem and router for a number of days to see if the lease will expire, then perhaps you will get a new IP when you power back up. I would wait at least 72 hours. This is obviously the hardest way to go because you will be offline for days.

Express VPN is a good suggestion, some antivirus softwares come with a VPN feature included, I know mine does.

                  1) Use a VPN
                  2) Hotspot off a phone

You can try Tor as well. Some of the most popular browsers have a Tor mode.

Call your ISP and request changing your IP address. They will do it.

Free Proton VPN & Email has worked well for me. Paid Proton, even better.

Or just change your IP address.

Some software won?t allow a VPN, usually banking software like Bank of America will block you. Keep that in mind.

                              Easiest:
Tether to phone (WiFi or USB) then open the site in a new Private Firefox, OR Brave window. Unlike Chrome, Private windows in Brave or Firefox seem to die into limbo when all Private's are closed...
Everything in a Private window seems to be sand-boxed until you close all private tabs/windows, but additional tabs/windows in that same browser keep cache until they are all closed...
Chrome likes to remember "incognito" stuff, so it isn't as incog-neeto as you might think...

You might be able to reboot your phone and do it again, too, but I never tried.

You can also change the MAC of your WAN port on the router, if you release first, but if you change it before you release your ISP's lease, you might have to wait some number of minutes/hours, unless you call them to release manually... depending on your your router handles that... I assume more would release, then change MACs, then renew, but it's been a LONG time since I did that...
