Anyway to delete microsoft edge from new computer

S mode makes windows act like android or iOS from apple. It only allows you to install microsoft approved applications. Here is short video on how to turn it off.

I don't know how/why - but I'm running win 11 pro and there is no "S mode"...

I followed tutorial in above link - and there's no 'store' (that he referenced)...

I did a quick search and followed this vid - at 3:45 mine only says windows 11 pro (no "S mode")...



maybe it was based on the options I used on initial setup (basically opted out of almost everything and turned loads of crap off)... I may have inadvertently/unknowingly shut it off before it was ever up and running?

The machine is new and runs great - so I guess I'll leave well enough alone (I probably just jinxed it

Why would you “get rid” of Edge? Microsoft is less evil than Google and Chrome. Some web sites only work on Edge or Chrome, so you still need one.

Brave of course is typically more “private.”

Some of us work in computers for a living and have done so since the 90s... This forum has professionals from all kinds of industries which makes it a great place to get information. If you ask something like this in an IT forum you'll just get 50 nerds arguing about the best way to do it and why everyone else is wrong.

Oh I agree with you. One of the reasons I frequent calguns is to learn about non-gun related, random topics broadening my knowledge. I didnt mean that the advices here aint good. I just think OP is not ready to make changes to Windows registry just yet. .

I just installed Revo Uninstaller to help with a couple other tasks.
Fired it up again for you and Microsoft Edge IS listed in the list of apps it should be able to uninstall.

They also have a portable version, since it was always so ironic to me that you had to *install* an app, in order to *uninstall* another one....

The problem isn't in the uninstallation but in reinstallation with Windows Updates. If you want I can lay out the steps for you to get rid of it permanently.


Edit: I was going to write out the steps but simply download W10Privacy, click on 'Edge,' select the first two options: to uninstall Edge and block it's reinstallation.

Yes, I actually practice what I preach. There is no Microsoft Windows on my computers. All of my desktops run a GNU/Linux distro (mostly Ubuntu), and the servers run OpenBSD. No problems.

This may or may not work for you depending on whether or not you have specific programs that you need to run that require Microsoft OS's. However, if you don't, then you can do this and enjoy the freedom.

This is the ultimate solution. The promise is privacy. Proper that you brought it to surface. The only true path is liberation and the way is by a Linux distribution. It isn't as frightening as it may seem nor difficult, just unfamiliar.

Agreed; people go from Microsoft Windows to macOS all the time, and macOS definitely is "unfamiliar" to most Microsoft Windows users. Linux Mint or Ubuntu is essentially macOS without the corporate spying and control over the computer user.

On the GNU/Linux side, the GNOME and KDE desktops are very easy to use. GNOME has rather a macOS feel to it; KDE has more a Microsoft Windows feel. And you get the choice!

Can vouch this. Had an old laptop with Windows. Wiped it and installed linux mint xfce. It ran almost like new and had no bloatware. I use Brave and Librewolf browsers. The website privacytools io is great to learn what softwares are good and respect our privacy.
