Do people still use Java to teach OOP? That would be the purpose.

God I hope not. Nobody should use java. Ever. If they did I would hope that they would be slingshotted into the sun.

Burn Java with fire. They taught us OOP with Java around year 2000. Setting up Java and libraries with eclipse or some other IDE was a pain in the azz


Then c# came along with .NET and all you had to do was click debug or run and it was a game changer.

But for OPs purposes, some top down functions / procedural app should work.

Also have him take a course in databases. I can't tell you how many jr. programmers I see who have zero database knowledge, none. Drives me up the wall.
