LG, Vios or Samsung smart tv. Which one is the best, second and third?

i'm new to this so didn't know that some models and brands have rca connectors until yesterday when i checked the back of the displays at sam's club.

i'm returning the smart tv we bought last week that doesn't have rca connectors and will get one that have rca connectors.

are they all pretty much the same quality or one is better than the others?

How are the apps on it? You can pretty much run all the stuff you want, right?

Does it come with any apps for free streaming TV channels?

i got rid of our tube set and replaced it with this modern one so i'm just learning and finding out new things. i'm so confused with the hulu, vudu, xumu ....

so for the question of apps for free streaming is still foreign to me. i'll have to play more with the remote and see what pops up.

Be advised, Apps will all eventually get slow, or not be supported on your TV.

I got an LG Smart TV with Web OS 5 years ago, and it was REALLY GREAT, but Hulu is no longer supported, and Netflix has gotten slower to load as the new versions get pushed. Same thing happened to my mother's 60", the apps got slower.

Just don't worry about it, just upgrade one of your HDMI inputs to something like a Firestick 4K when it is your TV's turn, but prepare via Black Friday sale for $25 (or some links posted in this sub-forum before Black Friday), and be set for when it happens to you.

We used to run some Rokus, and I used to take one when I travel for work for the hotel room, but new devices like the Firestick 4K actually do volume, and power on the TV, so you can even make a non-smart TV a Smart TV, only using one input, AND my TV streams through the same device for only $60/month for TV service too!

All TVs here in the house have a Firestick 4K, and that is all we use, even on the Smart TV that still works with Netflix and Youtube, we just don't use the "Smart"-function of the TV, as the Firestick 4k is more responsive(, AND on the WIRED NETWORK in my case). My Smart TV remote even controls the Firestick 4k, so we have 2 remotes for the downstairs TV. In the case of the Firestick 4K, it even has a button to press when you want to do a search via your voice, and it works so well that I never even use an on-screen keyboard in any App.

Do the new Rokus turn the TV on/off, and control volume like the newer Firesticks too?

I was one of the first adopters of Roku, and the first like 5 gens. really started to lag as they updated themselves, and as apps got updated.
Hell, I had some Roku updates that make wired networks stop working, and others made wireless stop working, so I had to keep switching back and forth.

Again, BOTH are all running Linux on the back-end, NOT iOS, for simple reasons, they are based on Open Source.

I can speak on Samsung's customet service...will never buy Samsung again.

Had a Samsung TV break during the warranty period. They have Americans who can assist you but will not give out a direct number. You talk tk someone in Malaysia first who sends an email to the claims dept here in the States. Then, if they decide to, they'll call you at rheir convenience. You have no way to follow up or to appeal any decisions.

Took them 3 months to send a replacement...that was not the problem. The problem is their logistics is so screwed up that you cannot even find out if the replacement shipped. It just shows up and surprises you...even more so when the carrier leaves a note because they need a wet signature for receipt, then reachedules delivery for another 2 weeks later.

                  It was a nightmare.

there are lots of pre-loaded apps and i only recognize few. i was looking for the option that will allow you to add more apps but i don't see it. might be missing it due to new to it?

i see some free tv shows and movies if that's what you're asking. sorry, i'ts a learning process to me.

excellent info. i guess one have to lose money and learn the hard way before they know what they are doing.

i'm starting to see and understand a little bit of this new smart tv world. had i known about firestick or roku, i could have just got us a regular hdtv (cheaper) and use other device to make it smart.

don't really care about the netflix, hulu & other apps. have no use for them. we thought we're gonna able to watch blazetv which is the only reason why we bought the smart tv. oh well..... we'll just gonna keep our dish network.

I’m partial to Samsung as they are a big client of ours and when they come to the shop they make comments if we have anyone elses TVs (we buy a ton of TVs for the shop as 3D digital files have replaced paper blueprints).
the rca connector is for our old dvd players. the one that we returned yesterday didn't have it. the vizio has it so we bought that as a replacement.

i like the samsung better in terms of remote control, picture quality and ability to add apps in comparison to vizio.

I can only tell you of some things I learned. I was about to buy a Samsung 70" from Microcenter in Tustin. Upon doing my research I discovered that Samsung WILL put banner ads and advertising in their menus and stuff. It is embedded in their firmware apparently. I have NOT had a chance to look in the menus, but the ads can supposedly be blocked by using a router and blocking the domain name and certain ports. But should you have to do that? When confronted with this, Samsung politely told someone this is their business model, and they have done it since 2016 and will not deviate. Then they gave them the finger and said don't let the door hit you too hard on the way out. (okay maybe not that part)

LG I consider exactly what it is. Like Garbage. Did LG get their roots from Goldstar AKA Radio Shack? In any event they have pulled some very deceitful crap like Samsung and have even been sued over removing all programming from a TV when the TOS was not agreed to AFTER purchasing a tv and after it was owned for a year or two IIRC. I could be wrong. I only found Vizio doing it at one point in a search: https://fortune.com/2015/11/19/smart-tv-spying/

I have heard LG had some EXCELLENT tvs, but I will not give them the time of day. I think Sharp might be a good choice to look into. But I am still running a early 2000 Sony 720P HD TV...

However. Roku- Not a huge fan. You have to make an account and it needs internet access etc.

Then you have a Minix Box. You might want to look into those. You can plugin USB drives with movies on them and watch from USB drives or have it access the internet via WIFI and stream. I think it can get plugged into the network as well. 8 cores and pretty fast response time even with the lacking remote and poor signal reception. BUT it DOES play the movies and it DOES have 2-3 USB slots for me to plug in 2TB USB drives with series or movies on them...U9-H perhaps? Oh and it has Kodi on it too... It is like an android phone on your TV. https://www.amazon.com/MINIX-Octa-Co.../dp/B06WGNY9L2
7 Billion people on the planet. They aint ALL gonna astronauts. Some will get hit by trains...

Need GOOD SS pins to clean your brass? Try the new and improved model...

And remember- 99.9% of the lawyers ruin it for the other .1%...

^^^ i just remember the lg phone that i had didn't last long. although not a tv, it associates the name to poor quality.

after playing with smart tv for 2 weeks, i have buyer remorse. it didn't wow! me and it didn't offer me anything i like.

i'm satisfied with the basic programming we have with the dish. so i'll keep our spare sharp crt tv. all this buying, returning and replacing was just a big waste of time.

i'm sure few years from now, something's gonna change that will force me to move in the new tech world and i'll be back to ask the best way to replace my old tv.

thanks to all for the short education.

In the Consumer Reports ratings, Samsung and LG dominate in most sizes. For 60" and larger, Sony and LG dominate.

ya, if you just wait long enough for the new toys, the price will eventually come down. i remember when hdtv first came out and the screen keeps getting bigger and bigger and so is the price. now they are dirt cheap.

My next TV is going to be a 65" or 70" LG OLED, I currently have a 50" Samsung SUHD which is great, we don't use the built in apps, instead use an Apple TV, recently upgraded to the 4K version. I seriously have a list of things that I plan on watching in 4K, either streaming or from the disc once I get that TV.
