I'm not aware of channels/repeaters that are always busy. The nature of the beast is either scan/monitor for traffic or once you are licensed transmit that you are online for a radio check or to chat.

N6NFI is very busy. 145.230 -offset PL 100.0 Its known as the learning channel. The same crudgen people talking about their cats farting an riding their bikes.
But its good just to listen and key up. They do a "Net" @ 0900 every weekday.

Check out the Channel 3 project. https://amrron.com/

All the MURS channels are good as you can talk on them without a HAM license.

      All the tests are canceled.

All the public safety are encrypted.

Good amount of chatter on N6NFI (9:30pm, weekday).
          Technical talk; great info.

I hear there is online testing available. Anyone know more about this?

Well here behind the redwood curtain in Humboldt, Trinity, and Del Norte Counties, all public safety frequencies are not encrypted. I can monitor from DC to Daylight frequencies...

Well except the Drug Task Force and FBI frequencies, they are the exceptions for encryption and using trunking radio systems...

Check the WinSystem. I believe there are a few repeaters in the Bay Area. It’s a linked network with repeaters all over the country and several in other countries. Usually there is a lot of activity.

In the Bay Area where he lives, yes they are all encrypted.

TONS of traffic on 146.865 KC6ULT and 146.925 WA6TOW repeaters. Both with a tone frequency of 114.8 Hertz and a minus offset. They are San Mateo county so you may not be able to open them but you should be able to heard them. TOW is the official repeater of the San Mateo County Sheriffs Office.

Nope. Most are NOT encrypted, but they are using P25 or another digital mode - which some people erroneously refer to as encryption - so you will need the right scanner to hear them. I had to buy a couple digital mode licenses for my Uniden SDS-100 to access some of them.

True I should have clarified. Santa Clara County is encrypted. Alameda county isn't

Checking in here for info. North bay, recently installed an Icom 5100 in my rig and am going to spend some time over this next week trying to figure it out. If you hear a dummy on the radio, say hi.
