What would be the easiest way for him to play his cd's in this new car?

Most likely there is way to navigate the USB drive with various folders created on USB drives using the radio.

In my house, I listen to CDs and vinyl on high-resolution equipment. But in the car, I use an old Apple iTouch loaded to the max with mp3 albums. I have decent car speakers and such, but the car is not an environment for high-end listening. The USB interface is nice to access hundreds of albums and a dozen playlists.

That depends on your computer equipment and how many CD drives that you have. With a slow computer and or a slow CD drive and slow software figure 5-10 minutes per CD, however I've run good multitasking ripping software on a fast PC equipped with 4 fast CD drives and ripped one every 90 sec or so. All I had to do with swap out discs while the PC ripped from all 4 drives, tagged the files and filed them for me. Note that these were ripped for my own private use.
