I have used the ATT microcell and it was terrible. You had to register the phone numbers you wanted it to work with and then half the time it didn't work.
I have been using a Wilson brand booster for about 4 years now and it has been great. These basically connect to a cell tower from an antenna outside your home/office and then send it through a booster and an internal antenna. It works with all carriers and is automatic after you set it up.
You do need some sort of signal outside for it to work, so it may not work for you if you are truly away from a coverage area.

I had an issue with good signal on the east side of the house, and virtually nothing on the west side, where we are most of the time. Called TMO tech support and he recommended a microcell. That was Sunday morning, and the microcell arrived the following Friday. Cost to me was a $25 deposit on the equipment, no monthly charge.

You locate the microcell's transmitter in an area with good coverage, and the receiver in the area with crappy coverage. Both have indicators so you know the signal strength. Once installed, coverage improvement was a minor miracle...no complaints and I can make and receive calls 5-600 yards west of the house on my pasture border.

        No need whatsoever for wi-fi.

Great! Sounds like they might have changed it from the version I had. Ours was just one device you hooked up to the ethernet. Yours sounds very much like the Wilson I've had such a good experience with.

get T-Mo and try it... everyone thinks because this and that say so or advertises about their reception it makes it so. I had both and after trying T-Mo I am not going back!

Differences in carriers as the customer sees it is 95% coverage, in most of the areas he frequents. If you've got another carrier and the coverage is great, stick with them.

I do prefer tmo from the standpoint of equipment. Good phone selection, no contractual agreement, pay monthly with no interest or pay cash.

I run a Weboost, a Wilson brand, and it works like magic provided however that you have even a weak signal outside the building. I carry a portable system when I travel because some places I stay have poor to no reception indoors.

That is all we did with our Microcell.

I have Verizon and have noticed some previously strong areas are weak now.
I'm thinking they are neglecting 4G now and devoting all their technical installations to 5G.
                    If so, not good.

Both carriers have microcells you can buy but the direction both carriers are going it would be better to use wifi, Check your router configurations as most new ones let you setup a guest wifi that you can use. Most newer phones support wifi calling but you have to check with the manufacturer.

Don't feel bad, I can't even take my cell phone into my work area!

I have noticed the same thing with Verizon.

Increasingly, certain areas which used to be generally decent are now unstable with dropped calls becoming common.

We have been with them since the beginning and their coverage is not what it used to be...

ATT is starting to look like a real option. New phones would come with the switch as well.

I fell the same way, Especially since they are disconnecting 3G 12/31
