Doesn't work, you still need the itunes password for the previous account. It is done to prevent theft and sales of stolen devices, factory reset wont fix the problem. The only thing these are good for, are parts.

OP - your friend should try the alternate options to reset the password. Email reset is not the only option. If she still has the same phone number she used, or remembers the answers to security questions, she can reset the password

I've done that before and it works. Restore to factory settings erases the Ipad like it was brand new.

Yeah. We tried a few things. She will try the iTunes process.
Email account is dead
Now she gets to go to iTunes support and see what they will do....

Put the iPad in DFU mode then connect to a computer with iTunes and set it up as a new device. That has worked for me in the past.

if you forget the DEVICE passcode, you can erase it but you still need the APPLE ID password if find my iphone was enabled

Think about it. There is a reason that hundreds of devices for sale on ebay specifically state they are locked and being sold for parts only, and it isn't because no one ever heard of DFU. This is a SECURITY FEATURE.

When you do a DFU restore it will not override activation lock.

There are a lot of scam products that claim to remove activation lock, but mostly just scams. There may be legit 3rd party products that can do it.

People have been trying to get around it for years and for a brief time there may have been a hole

Apple can remove activation lock remotely, but will only do it if you can convince them you rightfully own the device.

You are SOL. No icloud activated device will activate until it is removed. They closed the loophole years ago and the only way to get apple to unlock it is if you have a receipt or proof of ownership.
