    Inbound email bouncing back

Back in December, I suddenly no longer received any sales emails from Midway USA. I started with their online chat, and got this response--

"Thank you for your recent email regarding our email bounce back. Unfortunately, that is completely up to the email providers. They are the ones who are blocking them/sending them back to us. I apologize for the inconvenience. However, if you have a Gmail or Outlook email address, we can add that to your account and you should start receiving emails."

I later spoke to someone at Midway by phone and got pretty much the same story. Nothing they can (or want to?) do.

My server is Yahoo mail. All my stuff is bundled through ATT. (Please keep your opinions to yourself. I have my reasons, including family that depend on me.) My email client is Thunderbird.

I checked my server account, and there are no filters, and no blocked email addresses that would cause a problem.

I spoke to a tech at ATT name Peter (Right. Thick accent, real name Maharushi Skyhook) who went around the block three times to tell me yes, the emails are bouncing back, and it is up to the sender to fix it.

In poking around on the web, it seems that Yahoo recently changed their protocols to cut down on spam, but the details started to make my eyes glaze over.

The 'from' email address on the last one I got from Midway was--

    midway@emails.midwayusa.com

So, 1) Has anyone else had this problem, and 2) has anyone found a solution?

I get Midway emails just fine at Yahoo. Did you confirm beyond any doubt that they are spelling the email address correctly, including the domain name, and that there are no extraneous characters or spaces in the email address? That is the very first thing I would check, and I would triple check it.

You need to have Midway send (via fax, carrier pigeon, another email address) you one of the bounces so you can see what error Yahoo is returning to them. Even better would be SMTP logs, but the bounce should tell you a lot.

just set up another email account on gmail or outlook.com

Most people have multiple email accounts for various reasons. Your's is one of them.

Could be that some duffus anti gunner at ATT added a filter ... it happens.

The tech support indian isn't high ranking enough to fix the issue. I suspect one of the many blacklisting sites out there listed midway, or ATT is using a "greylisting" system where they bounce emails and wait for a resend. Mass-email-systems rarely respond properly to this.

it's also possible that midway sends their email adverts through a third party with spammy history. Do you get order confirmations ok?

If you can, try adding midway to a "whitelist" or "known good emailer" type list on your account.

In reality, both midway and ATT can fix this, but neither is likely willing.

I've written up my ongoing adventures as I learn to hunt.

Yes, you CAN fit a case of shotgun shells into a .50cal ammo can.

I think i found an optimal solution for ammo can labeling.

I made this target for the NRA's Marksman pistol test. I think it's a lot better than the paper plate they suggest.
