    Robot vacuums

I'm interested in getting one for my wife before I deploy to make house care with me gone easier. Does anyone have any experience with them and have any brands that they recommend? I'd be sticking to the ground floor which is laminate and tile, less than 1000 sq ft, with couches that sit just over 3" high.

    Keep in mind that...

They work by mapping out your floor plan.

Last month, it was discovered that the iRobot (maker of a majority of these types of devices) Terms Of Service and Privacy policy allows them to collect (which they've been secretly been doing via uploading data when they get software updates) and sell the data they collect without the owner's consent.

Check out the ilife Beatles. They clean but do not map the floor. And no WiFi so no communication. Cheaper too. They are awesome.

I think that wasn't as bad as the auto-vac poop spreader.

Get a neato from Amazon. It maps out the room a systematically vacuums, you know like you do... We love ours, have named it, and that ***** to work almost daily. The only thing that has broken is a rechargeable battery.

They are a lot of fun if you have cats. But I am not so sure the Roombas are the best choices today.

+1 to Neato brand. We have one and it works great. We have two dogs and the dirt bin isn't very high capacity. I need to empty it twice during each house cleaning cycle. Ours self-maps the house after running a few times but it does not have wifi so I know it's not spying on me.

If it died, I'd buy another. They really have the technology down on these things.

I had an iRobot vacuum but it drove my dog nuts. Anyway here is a link to a Sweethome shootout.

Robot vacuums never get bored or tired, so with little effort on your part, they can keep your floors consistently tidy.

Thanks everyone, I've been looking at the iLife A6, figure switching out the parts between vacuum and mopping is something the wife is not going to want to do so no point in the V5 or V7. I'll take a look at the Neato brand as well.

Here's an article to get up to speed on robot vacuums.

I have an 800 series roomba which is great on tile floors due to the rubber roller design instead of a bush design.

Ended up going with the EcoVacs Deebot N79, has more positive reviews versus the ilife A6 and the Eufy Robovac 11 and slightly more features. Ordered it early enough that I can run it through it's paces and teach my wife what she needs to know for it for while I'm gone.
