    Uninstalled Carbonite

Had it installed since this last 27 Jun, expires 2019.

I want it to backup when I tell it to rather than on its own Automatic timetable. I am on the computer at any hour during the day or night. My sleep schedule is erratic so I shop, communicate, browse, listen to music and tend to the Forum.
Too many times the computer (WIN Pro 7) has locked up, stopped, paused or whatever, causing me to shutdown and start over.
It all seems to stem from Carbonite since all was fine until installation of same.

I went into settings and there is no way to stop automatic backups where I can do it manually at my convenience rather than Carbonites.

I called them and the guy at Customer Support said they don't offer a manual button for backup as its all designed for automatic.

Just one button is all I ask so I can decide when to perform backup.

He said they don't do that, just select a delay.

Told him to close my account, he said he cannot, I said I am uninstalling it and I want my money back.
He said you can uninstall but you won't get your money back.
It was a 2 year purchase on VISA.

    Carbonite is Uninstalled.

Looking for other way to backup.

I suppose I better add that I do not wish to buy a new computer at this time.

EDIT to add this link to PC Mag review of Carbonite's comments section.
Seems Carbonite users had many problems reported https://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,281...#disqus_thread

I would normally suggest Crashplan, but just got a notice that they are switching to a businesses only model by Oct 2018. Their suggestion for home users.... Carbonite.

That being said, if you don't mind paying, I've been happy with Crashplan for our business.

I've been using Carbonite for most of a year now with no trouble.

If you don't like auto-backup, then go into settings and select "do not back up during certain hours", then select times so it only has 1 minute to back up during a time when the computer is generally off. (don't back up between 3:01 am and 3:00 am)

When you want to do a backup then go uncheck that option.

Carbonite allows you to set a throttle on how much the software uses during backup. Mine is set at 35% and I can barely can tell Carbonite is running.

Carbonite can be told not to BU during any set periods of time. I have mine not BU from 7am to 11 pm.

I use Cobian Free also. I use that to BU manually locally. You create a task and go from there. Can be automatic, by the day, by time, by even/odd, every other day etc, very configurable. Mine has two tasks-one auto and one manual to a 4TB USB drive.

I use iDrive. It gives me 2TB of storage and I can backup multiple computers to that 2TB for $70/yr. They have a free 5GB plan if you want to try it out. I have full control - schedule as I choose or hit the backup-now button. I've successfully restored data after a crash so it works.

That does not sound very user friendly. Maybe all of the Mac users will take to it kindly, but not a real computer user that wants to control everything.

Every thought about getting an FTP site and then running Kobian backup or KAren's backup and have it archived and uploaded to your FTP site when you want to do it? All you need is web hosting. Hell, it does not even need to be a real FTP site actually, just a place with a login and password that it can dump the files onto... Oh wait, that IS an ftp site... So yeah, how much do you back up? a few hundred MB? maybe some GB?
7 Billion people on the planet. They aint ALL gonna astronauts. Some will get hit by trains...

Need GOOD SS pins to clean your brass? Try the new and improved model...

And remember- 99.9% of the lawyers ruin it for the other .1%...

                This to update;
Carbonite did refund the monies without a fuss, credited my cc.

They said they used to have the feature where one could turn it off but they dumped it for whatever unknown reason.

On to look at your posted recommendations for backups.

                Thanks,
