Over the years I used Norton's', McAfee, and a slew of others, But for the past 5/6 years we use ESET. Norton's was a resource hog the last time we used it.

We don't have Win 10, but so far it's been okay.

    Respectfully
    Kyle

bitdefender is rated the best AV but nextgen threat protection might be a cool thing to try out and see if it works for you. companies like cylance are getting good reviews.

If you're an xfinity/comcast customer, you can download and install Norton for free. I have it on all my Windows machines and have not found it to be a resource hog.

Defender is fine. Just don't click on anything stupid.

MS Defender is ok if you don't do a lot of web surfing and you avoid opening attachments and links in your email, but it's poorly rated by testers. One reason is that malware developers test their "products" against major anti-malware products before they release them into the wild. You can bet that Defender leads the pack as a product they find ways to work around. Naturally, MS releases updates to defend against the latest nasties very soon after they are discovered but these things take do time. Since McAfee and Norton are popular in the corporate world they would also rank in among the top three targets for workarounds.

Kaspersky and ESET have always been good choices and I'll add Webroot Defender to that list. Of course, the most important key to security is to practice "safe hex", that is, do not surf to flaky sites and do not open attachments or links you find in your email.

WHATEVER you do, be sure to get the Spybot ANTI BEACON.

I have not used it but given the history of this company I would make it a MUST HAVE item.

As for Security, MS Essentials is probably okay. Avast celebrates National Talk Like a Pirate Day (Sep 19th). I think.

Norton of Mcaffee? HELL NO to BOTH of those. IF I had to pay for one, ESET NOD 32 or whatever it is called now is what I would pay for. I would also buy it through Microcenter since they have deals on renewels, like 1/3 to 1/10th the price to renew... I think they do like 3 or 5 licenses or something for like the price of one new license or whatever. I could be wrong, but anyways...

                          Forget Norton

I use Zone Alarm. Has been working well for me for years. Used it in Win XP, Win 7 and now Win 10.

somebody on here awhile back posted that they install ESET on the computers their company builds. i installed it , and absolutely love it !! one of the best things going for ESET, is they are out of san diego, and that is exactly where your tech support comes from. ESET has been aggressive on blocking questionable items and i have yet had a single incident . absolutely ESET.
