$$$$$ While do want an Ipad (non air), the price pint doesn't allow it. This will be a a dedicated land nav unit paired with a Dual-XGPS150A-GPS. I'll strip the software down to the minimum to make room for the USFS, topo and other maps

There is an android map app with BLM overlays for $10. The ASUS ZenPad 7 models have a micro SD expansion slot and it can handle up to 128gb. Plenty of room for topo maps without having to strip it down. It has built in GPS.

Thanks Jospeh, I went with a Dual XGPS 150 for the GPS and am leaning to Giaia or MotionX for the nav system. Both take BLM, USFS and Topo maps, works well with Goggle Earth Pro and can layer between them.

My wife was a staunch Ipad'er. I bought her the Galaxy S2 Tablet 9.7" from Costco on sale for $379.99 about 3 months ago. She absolutely loves it and I find myself using it quite often and I NEVER used her IPad. The battery lasts about 4 times longer than her IPad 2 and is much faster. The screen is like HD compared to the apple products.
