    A good tablet?

As much as I would like to get an new Ipad it just isn't in the cards. So, anyone have a recommendation for a good Android tablet?

    Thanks

My ASUS Memopad 7" is my fastest Android device (<$120 over a year ago, on eBay).

It's not the fast to boot, but after boot it is pretty quick for all my browsing and app needs.
I run my stuff lean, w/out a bunch of games and shiz, as they have a bunch of ads and such... so that might be some reason it's so fast.
I can't vouch for game-play, as I don't play, or even install games on my Android devices, as I have stuff to learn and get done...

(FYI: Don't try to use anything on WiFi at a Hilton Garden on a weekday, they have things to fix, every one I have been to.)

Amazon Fire tablets are not high end but are inexpensive. Some less than $100

I have a 5 year old Nexus 10 I use 5x/week and only lately do I see battery life dwindling. I'd get 5-6 hrs/ a day of use leaving 25% battery life remaining before recharging. Batteries are available on Amazon for $100 and takes about 45 minutes to replace (per YouTube videos).

                Bottom line - best (trouble-free) $500 I spent on a technology item.

ASUS and Samsung have the best android tablets IMO. I am going to be picking up a new one in the next couple of weeks. I need to do some more research. I bought an ipad pro 9.7 about a month ago. It has 4 speakers which sound great to my mostly deaf ears. I would like to get that on an android tablet. Android gives me an easier way to do things that apple tries to restrict.

The screens on the samsung tablets are pretty amazing.

I just bought a 128 GB iPad Air 2 for $399 at Costco. It was $80 off but it may have gone up.

Seems pretty reasonable. But yeah, I'd wait for the sales.

                          Hows about:
                          1) Proprietary-expensive cables.
                          2) iTunes is bloatware, updates negate features added with a jailbreak (still, I don't know?), AND a proprietary BSD-based-closed source OS.
                          3) Battery swaps are a PITA on just about all models (compared to just popping off the back with a fingernail, and then removing just a screw or two?).
                          4) Price-point, (AVG=~DOUBLE an Android tablet price from what I have seen, for an even slower /proc/) for even more proprietary hardware.
                          5) No back button (but if it's there, it's never in the same place 2x, AND people think tapping randomly off a pop-up window in an application is the same, but it isn't uniform on all applications) = inefficiency, and illogical interface.
                          6) Can't just use it as a drive/storage for file-transport.
                          7) Can't just copy MP3s to and from w/out a full sync?
                          8) Screenshots have to be found (by default) via camera app?
                          9) Might not even have a standard headset jack (audio out)/Lightning headphone cables... but which models? Research required... but most iPhruity device users just play at a loud volume anyways, in public places like you want to hear JayZ's interview...

$$$$$ While do want an Ipad (non air), the price pint doesn't allow it. This will be a a dedicated land nav unit paired with a Dual-XGPS150A-GPS. I'll strip the software down to the minimum to make room for the USFS, topo and other maps

Bought a Samsung Tab Pro 12.2" in I think May of 2015, overall I really like it.
Buttttt.....a few times, like twice the battery would die at 60 something %, this was extremely annoying and I had to send the tablet back 2x and almost a 3rd, actually I might have sent it back a 3rd time dont really remember. I was starting to get extremely annoyed with Verizon over this but for the past couple of months its been fine, goes all the way down to less than 10% w/o a problem. It was expensive though and the payments were broken up over 24 months. I have 5 or 6 payments left. I dont think Ill get another one anytime soon as I have a perfectly good laptop. I made the mistake of buying the tablet right after a bought a new laptop, will never do that again.
