Cut the cable? How did you do it?

I absolutely want to go ape on ATT/UVerse/Direct TV.

Gigabit company Sonic is coming to our town on Jan 2017. I think its time for us to cut the pig cable and go on demand.

Dow did you guys do it? What is your setup?

Mine is as simple as it gets.

Antenna on roof good for approx 130 channels of free HD-TV. Many of which are foreign language. $50

And a ROKU box that is sinc'd to wireless router on desk top computer. $69

NetFlix subscription with tens of thousands of titles and tv series. $17 a mo.

Initial outlay $119. $204 annual cost of NetFlix. Could do without NF and still have more than I could watch in a lifetime.

      Pretty simple here also.

Roof Top antenna $100 Gives me all the local San Diego stations plus ones I don't watch (like Cable)

Amazon Firestick - $40 (although I went ahead and bought 3 so $120). We have amazon prime so that gives us a s*** ton of programs. Installed KODI on the firestick and have watched more movies and series than ever. Could have watched Magnificent Seven this last weekend but I'm waiting for better quality stream to come out.

Internet service $55 per month (cox). At&T is installing fiber optic in the neighborhood so I may switch to that once it's up and running

I bought a wireless router for $200 so I don't have to rent one from Cox.

Adding that all up, my first month bill was $475 so let's say $500 all in for tax and gas. Cable/Internet bill went from $240 down to 55 so $185 less per month. Had it 6 months so my net savings is over $300 for the period.

        My situation was even simpler.

Called Comcast and told them to cancel my account....here's your receiver.

My bill went from ~$200 a month to $0.

Fired cable when they started charging more for less.
Fired DTV when they started charging more for less.

I stopped watching TV after a year of chemo. The stuff changes you in ways you wouldn't expect.

I've got one of those set-top digital boxes, unopened and gathering dust.
Fired ATT phone service when they started charging more for less. Turns out DSL works without those greedy bastids.

Amazon Fire TV stick for every TV. KODI on every Fire Stick. And I mounted a $50 antenna in the attic and hooked it up to where the existing cable splitter feeds to the whole house. Don't look back.

Cut the feed from DISH a few months back. Antenna on roof works great for three TVs (I'm only 25 miles from Mt Wilson in SoCal). Have Roku but use it very little.

What I didn't anticipate that has put a smile on my face is YouTube. There is so much content on YouTube I find little time to watch anything else. If anything, YouTube has inspired me to relive my youth (when I was passionate about film making) and re-start making content.

never been a fan of kodi maybe because i have better options with plex.

lots of content on hulu. amazon and netflix both have a lot of content.

                    sonic is a good company.

Cut the cable cord about 6 months ago. We have basic internet for $45/month. We use Smart TV Apps/IPad apps for channels we watch most. We were paying $200/month. $900 Savings over 6 months went into the "fun" account.
