changes to hotmail account by Micro?

I just received an email from the overlords at Microsoft saying I need to either upgrade to Windows 10 or it will be difficult for me to access my @Hotmail.com
email account. I think I am reading the email correctly. It says:

It appears that you are currently using the Windows Live Mail 2012 application to connect to your Out*look*.*com account. The Windows Live Mail 2012 application does not support the synchronization technologies used by the new Outl*ook*.*com. When account upgrades begin at the end of June, you will no longer be able to receive email sent to your Out*look*.*com account in the Windows Live Mail 2012 application. Rest assured, you can always access your email by logging into Out*look*.*com from any web browser, and you will continue to have access to all your data that is currently in the Windows Live Mail 2012 application.

If you are using Windows 7, you can upgrade to a newer version of Windows to enjoy the Mail app and the other benefits. If you do not wish to upgrade, you can access your account via a web browser, or, you can take advantage of a free one-year subscription of Office 365 Personal , and use Outl*ook 2016 to connect to your account.* This Off*ice 365 subscription also includes other productivity applications such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel. It works on Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1, and Windows 10. "

Am I reading it correctly? I have Windows 7. Thx

Microsoft wants to force everyone to go to windows 10. Even though windows 10 has better performance, its wrong for them to try to force people to upgrade. You have 3 options:
      1. use a browser to access your emails
      2. do not update your current windows live mail application (i think its too late for this since you probably already updated it. You can always degrade.)
      3. use a different app like Thunderbird.

Hotmail has nothing to do with spam. Its how you use your email that causes spam.
I use a paid service for my work e-mail and I still get spam.
Easy fix, don't use your main email for internet services. Especially pornographic websites.

          Hmmmm I don't .

Blocking Hotmail on all of my devices helps ensure that.

Changing my email address from Hotmail really isn't an option for me. Got it out in too many places (and no, no porn)
Afraid I do not know what is meant by using a "browser" to get my email? Does it really look like I'll need to get Win 10 just to keep my friggin Homail account??

Oh no, when they said use browser it means opening up your internet and going to hotmail.com to access your email. I'm guessing you currently have a program on your computer that you click once and it opens up your email. Correct?

just means it wont support Windows Live Mail 2012. you can use a browser to check it directly IE,crhome, firefox or use another program.

I agree... It's just not right to install Win10 on computers without any permission.

Ah. I forgot to mention Im pretty computer helpless.
Yes, that is correct. When I open my email button both my Hotmail and Time Warner email accounts open...
So, if I understand correctly, I will no longer be able to do this if I do not upgrade to 10 and will need to go directly to a Hotmail site to open?

                      thx again

After reading the OPs post, I logged in to my Hotmail account. It was my first e-mail account and it has been 15 or so years since I logged in.

I have 1,897 e-mails to read and 13,508 e-mails in the junk folder. Yea...I'll get right on it.

Side note: I would have thought MS automatically deletes junk e-mails after a certain time. I have junk mail dating back to 2002.

I still use Hotmail (it is Outlook now). Accessing through the browser is easy.
I have had that account since 2003 for my business so.....pretty hard for me to change as well.

I access my 3 Hotmail accounts using Safari on my iPad. No issues.

                            Hotmail 17 years.

I still use hotmail. I've had it since it was first started up. I rarely get spam. I have windows 10 and the newest hotmail interface sucks. It is slow and stalls out all the time. I would ignore microsoft and the scare tactic email.
