    fireTVstick

After years of Cox billing increases and no improvement in availability of programming or movies I now have a fireTVstick.

Movies or regular programs can be streamed commercial free and it is good.

I'm tired of reruns and constant commercials offered from Cox.

Will streaming devices be the end of cable TV as we know it?

Remember the cable promise of commercial free television?

Yeah that was a lie. List your alternative device and why it is better than cable.

hey ironhorse1, did you install kodi on your fireTV / firestick?

I tried to install kodi on my recently acquired fireTV, and it doesn't work. so weird. tried multiple links, and devices. something tells me amazon figured out a way to block kodi.

were you successful on previous versions? Wondering what firmware version you're running and if it is indeed a result of updated firmware.

          kodi

I don't know. This is all new to me and something the wife got into.

          Nice to watch without commercials.

Cut my Cox TV to the bare minimum. To heck with their constant price increases.

funny - we were just talking about cancelling TV services here. I just got off the phone with cox and I ended up keeping TV basic service because it was $20 cheaper to keep it bundled since we have internet and land line with them. Funny - it would have cost more to eliminate tv completely.

I was reading up on a few blogs--most important is to disable auto-updating on the firestick/firetv. I didn't do that. So that could be the case.

I actually bought a Firestick 2 months ago, and enjoyed Kodi for a good month, before the Firestick stopped working entirely. Then I went ahead and returned it.

2 weeks ago bought a FireTV, thinking it was just a bum item. And I never was able to install kodi on FireTV. Looks like Amazon is figuring it out. I'll return the FireTV.

357manny if you're having trouble with your kodi there's guy's on Craigslist for a modest fee that can get you squared away.
You take them your firestick and remote and 10 min later your done. Ask questions my guy was excellent. I had installed kodi myself, but he got it to run better.

In 2013 Cable and internet bundle cost $159 a month.

Now it is $199 a month as they raise rates in one and two dollar increments per line of service.

So the bill, but not the service, has increased $40 per month.

The TV sucks but the internet service is good. Except back when they would throttle the internet. Have not noticed that in awhile but even ATT was doing it.

Instead of getting more money I have slashed the bill by about $70. Sometimes I wish everyone would tell Cox that enough is enough. They will not always be truthful on the phone as they want more money.

Have not used their phone bundle as I do not trust them. The history of price increases speaks for itself.

I'll check to see if Kodi is available. So far we have had good luck finding programming to watch.

There are also sites you can buy a fire stick with kodi preloaded on it... That's what I did, works perfect.

Darn it. I had kodi and now I don't. If Amazon updates are not blocked they can kill kodi.

There's a work around which I need to try to get it back.

Maybe I need more dvds. Very frustrating!

I just installed Kodi on a Firestick using ES File explorer. I had try different downloads from the list.I used Kodi 16.1 zip.ES File is able to unzip.
I'm trying out a Schism build on it to see how it works.

That said I really only use the FireStick for Amazon content. There are better, faster devices for Kodi.

                              kodi fix

                              Go to Amazon home

Settings go to applications, scroll to manage installed applications.

Click it, scroll down to kodi and click it.

Find launch kodi and click it.

If you are at the Amazon home screen in the recent bar just select and click on it.

If this works for anyone else please post.
