    I agree with this.

Macs are good home computers though and easy to backup and restore... even to new hardware which is neat for a home product.

But I wouldn't use them in a corporate workstation environment.

it's about 2-3% not as good.

Seriously; they're all 95% plus for known threats.

Unfortunately; they are all really bad at new threats so common sense / paying attention is required to be safe (don't click it if unsure).

here is the best option. get your self centralized storage. use a old computer or buy a nas. this way all your data is safe on a raid set up vs on the computer. than wipe the computer and start over. once you have everything set up make a back up image. update the image every couple months it takes little time. when something goes wrong reload from the image. all your data wont be on the computer anymore so you wont be worried about data loss. you could also go with a cloud back up. i dont know why anyone in this day and age would have anything of importance stored on a local computer.

I'm an IT guy, and I have the exact same agreement with both Apple and Microsoft. They keep doing stupid stuff and I keep cussing at them.

The two worlds are very different with different problems. Apple breaks a metric TON of 3rd party programs EVERY time they upgrade their OS - which is constant. Then they don't fix half their bugs until the next OS update - which introduces several more. If you don't update, pretty soon nothing will work as both Apple and the rest of the "apple world" are NOT backwards compatible.

I run Apple for one reason, and one reason only: Its based on Unix. As far as I'm concerned, OS X is the same now as it was 10 years ago - but don't try running anything from then on today's version. With Windows, there are certain programs from the late 1970s - written before Windows or even DOS existed - that can still be run - and little or no problems running 10 or 15 year old software.

I sum it up this way: Apple's problem is their arrogance, Microsoft's problem is their incompetence - which is starting to turn into arrogance as well. Someone posted they'd never had "never had Windows update remove a file". Well, welcome to Windows 10 - because its happening and has been well documented. In fact, Microsoft warns that it will happen - it will un-install programs Microsoft doesn't like.

Windows 10 is pretty decent - its ugly but it works. You have to turn off all the telemetry and un-install all the consumer oriented garbage "Apps" that suck resources, bandwidth and money from your wallet. After that, it pretty much works like 7, but faster and with better stability.

Like I said, they BOTH keep doing stupid stuff, and I keep cussing at them. Choose your poison.

Several years back, I was needing to replace an aging, and failing iMac. At that particular point in time, I was especially annoyed with Apple and was considering a Windows 7 box with Cygwin (which is another kettle of fish). Then Microsoft introduced Windows 8. Having zero desire to dumb my computer down to the level of a smart fone, I bought a new Mac Mini the next day. My annoyance alternates between the two Giants on a daily basis!
