Was on the fence until my wife's work got a 50$ off rebate, installing tomorrow. My 2 friends that have it love it we'll see.

You can run off the internal battery for about a year (they say) before you have to charge it but hardwire is worth it to get live view.

My internal battery lasts for about a month for mine. Kind of a pain to recharge but I'd have to do some major masonry to get the wire run to it.

I picked one up from Costco when they had a $40 instant rebate.

Observations:
- Easy to install
- You need a strong wi-fi connection
- The video quality is NO WHERE near what the box or marketing would have you believe, but it's very serviceable
- The app takes a bit to load (and this is on an iPhone 7+), but once loaded it's simple to use
- I bought at Costco because of their return policies...there was some misinformation earlier in the thread.

Costco limits returns to 90 days only for televisions, Tuner-Free Displays, Projectors, Major Appliances, Computers, Touchscreen Tablets, Cameras, Camcorders, MP3 players and Cellular Phones.

Everything else (besides booze and smokes of course) has an essentially unlimited return window. I bring this up because there is a Ring "Pro" model that's slimmer and allegedly has better video. If that one ever makes it to Costco, I'll probably return this Ring and get that one, simply for the improved video quality.

I thought about getting one but opted for the light version instead. Same features and the ring doorbell but it also has a alarm you can set off via your phone app.

Wow... I'd turn your motion sensitivity down.
I've had mine for almost a year... bought it the same time I bought the Kevo.
I've charged it 3 times, but it's never been below 50%.
I'd prefer to charge it on a weekend evening when we're both home rather than having it out of commission for a full overnight or weekday, so I don't let it get down to needing more than 4 or 5 hours on charge.

If you currently have a hardwired doorbell, use that option, but also move to the premium model. It has no battery, but it allows you to stream live video on demand rather than only in response to motion or a ring.


The advantages are a tossup. The battery unit CAN be hardwired, so if you have that option, the drawback of the battery is a non-issue.
The main advantage of the battery unit is, IF you have a battery backup on your WiFi router (and ONT if on fiber), the system will continue to function in the event of loss of power (or, someone cutting your power at the meter).
But you can't stream video on demand from the battery unit.

Resolution is good.

I have a Ring Doorbell. I installed it myself into a stucco wall and it was easy. The product even includes the drill bit. Just take time to make sure the anchor holes are lined up right.

I didn't bother messing with my doorbell, which is perpendicular to my door. The Ring fits nicely in between the door frame and the corner. Do yourselves a favor and stop browsing 50 reviews, doing extended comparisons, handwringing, pontificating, and just go buy it. It works.

The ring doorbell is awesome. If your going to get it, you should buy the pro model which does 1080p I have it paired with the ring secuity cameras and together it lets me know if folks are walking up my driveway, up to my door and around my house. And I can talk to them through either unit. No problems with connectivity or delay. The other day I saw a wolf hanging out in my driveway at 2am in the morning, and I was able to share the video with the neighbors to let them know to watch out for their pets and small children.

I would also not automatically reject a video doorbell just because it can't be mounted on the same wall as the front door. I have one that is on a perpendicular wall, and is partially blocked by the mailbox, but it still gets a good view of who comes to the door (I do have two other external and one other internal camera pointed at the front door).

AFAIK: Yes, the live view only works on the standard model if it's hard wired. Then you get the "Live View" button in the app:

Going to have to wire up a wall-wart transformer and run it to my door.
I still need to plug the hole and repaint from where the old mechanical doorbell was anyways. May as well run a "duct" through some molding.

i've got my LIVE VIEW to work via battery and not hardwired. Caveat - it will KILL your battery in a matter of days. Still love this thing though

I bought the "Arlo" it is motion activated wireless cameras that work via wi fi. easy to install and move around to suit your needs. the concern with ring doorbell or any other system that works via wi fi is that if the thief knows it is there cut the phone lines and no more cameras. I think better to have them out of sight so you can see them first and once you get alert call the cops!!
