Tesla Model 3 bookings hit 230,000

Elon just got interest free 2.3 billion $. Without showing the car he got over 120,000 booking at $1000 each.

    Anyone booked theirs?

      Lol

But it is impressive that he got that many people to spend that much on something they've never seen.

        230,000 x $1000 is 230 million, not 2.3 billion.

            Sounds like a Tucker.

I'll wait until they work out the kinks. And until they make a battery that can get me from LA to Mammoth in one charge I'm not interested.

When subsidies stop Tesla will tank...would never buy stock in them. All propped up by government money.

You won't be. The tax breaks terminate after Tesla ships their 200,000th car. On top of the breaks phase out in 2018, unless Congress renews them. Either way, the 200,000 mark is in sight. IIRC, they've shipped ~170,000 cars to date...

I'm wondering why the Chevy Bolt doesn't get any love. Pretty much the same specs in terms of range at least. Not the cache of the Tesla, but for my money I'd go for the Chevy for a pure EV. If I was looking for a new car in that vein– I wouldn't buy either though. I'd go for the new Volt.

Unfortunately Bolt lacks the nationwide Tesla supercharger network. As far as I know you can't speed-charge the Bolt either. So while it'd be great for commuting as long as you were in range, a longer journey would be very painful. Imagine driving 200 mi and then having to stop for many hours to charge.

That's why the volt is so slick. commute your 53 miles a day, then flip over to gas and "go to mammoth." had I 30k to put on a car, it would be a Volt for sure. The new model (33k) looks really nice.

Regen on demand sounds especially awesome, for those who commute over a hill (Santa Cruz to San Jose anyone?)

My wife and me are fortunately pretty close to work. So the 50+ miles pure electric is A OK. I'd certainly like to get enough solar on the roof to at least charge part of the time. Yep, and 400+ miles on a tank of gas ain't bad right?
