    the new BSOD? Windows 10

I got this twice now. I usually leave the pc on hibernate. What is odd is also whenever there is an update downloaded and needing a reboot, my bluetooth mouse just goes haywire. clicks don't work. click lock stuck, et etc.

outside of those, laptop's fine. it was an upgrade from a fresh install of Win7 (no dell dbar etc etc).

Windows and BSOD's....the more things change, the more they stay the same.

I forget the last time I've had that kind of crash with a GNU/Linux distro...it's been that long.

Funny thing, the only recent problems I've had with any Linux distro are related to running Windows programs through Wine. For whatever reason, installing Wine on Ubuntu wasn't smooth due to some sort of dependencies issue. So then I found a PPA to install Wine, but after an apt-get update/upgrade then it says it's missing dependencies again.

OP, do you really need Windows?

This error occurs when a hardware device was instructed to change power state but didn't respond. For example if the device was your Bluetooth antenna you use with your mouse, it may not be properly switching to low power state when you enter hibernation mode, or not returning to full power state when coming out of hibernation.

Most likely the device that is causing the problem would be one that uses 3rd party drivers. Video hardware, wireless Ethernet, and Bluetooth devices would be the first places I'd suspect the issue is coming from. You could open the minidump (which is the error info being saved that your screen shot is referring to) to try to determine the exact driver using a minidump reading utility. You could just update any 3rd party drivers to the latest versions from the manufacturer's website and hope you pick the right one. You could also stop switching power states with your laptop to work around the issue.

My first guess would be you have a Windows 7 driver running on Windows 10 that is not entirely compatible. Windows 10 does generally support Windows 7 drivers, but if the driver developer did something weird with their Windows 7 driver that Microsoft didn't expect, even though it still worked fine on Windows 7, it may not work in Windows 10.

Thanks Stix. I actually changed my wifi nic/bluetooth card to intel while on Win7 to see if performance improved. The killer network nic was a POS. 1mbps! compared to my old HP's 802.11n from same router/distance showing 19mpbs or so. dell's xps15 laptop was extremely poor when it came to wifi. i bought the intel one (ac). it was better but not much but better @ starbucks.

i updated hte intel drivers. it maybe be bluetooth since every now and then, my bluetooth mouse loses connection and re-connects back after 5-6 seconds.

i'm thinking of doing fresh win10 install when i have time and can afford the downtime.

In an emergency, always dial 1911.
