    Help With Program

I have one of the original JVC hard disk movie cameras.
The files are .mov files and I lost the CD that came with the camera many moons ago and JVC has been no help at all. Is there a good program available on the Al Gore net that will allow me to view all my .mov files?

I believe that is the native Apple QuickTime format.

QuickTime 7.7.9 improves security and is recommended for all QuickTime 7 users on Windows

I found this Wiki. Looks like the easiest way is to use VLC media player.

If you have a JVC camcorder, you may have discovered that your footage is saved in .MOD format, which isn't compatible with many existing media players. Before you return your new camcorder, read the following steps on how to work with...

If you have the movie files on your pc now, you can try to make a copy of them (just in case) and place them in a separate folder, then try to rename them with the extension .WMV, or .AVI. sometimes this will allow your player to play them in the new format.

KM player should play them, no codecs needed. KM player is in my opinion the best player you can get.

It seems more compatible then VLC, but if you hit CTRL-ALT-S while playing a video you can make an index file.

I have used KM player to play many WMV and M4V and MOV files. I have no MODs to play but MOD is also a Midi sampled music file from way back when.

Worst case you may need to convert it.

Try VLC and KMplayer and see what works better for you.

BTW, I use KM v 3.6. The newer ones have advertising built into them.

I had one of those camcorders too. You just need to change the extension to .MPG and it will play.

LoL. So it is like an iRIVER?

When iRivers first came out they had REC extensions on them or something like that for voice recordings and they had a utility that allowed you to run it and convert them over into .mp3 so you could play it on the computer. But I watched it convert a list and I was like, wait no what? So I changed a REC file to a .txt and looked at it with notepad and sure enough it was an MP3 file to start with, but the iRivers will not allow you to transfer an MP3 off of the player, you can move them there and you can DELETE them, but you can not move them off (to discourage piracy of songs) so I figured that if I wanted to share songs with others I would rename them to .REC on the iRiver and then move them off or copy them off later. But the firmware did not allow you to copy the MP3 file format off the device. LoL... Hacked...
If they had put some sort of delay in their conversion process I might not have figured it out as fast.

I don't know. It could be. I had an iRiver when they first came out but don't remember enough about it to know for sure.
