Office 2010 runs fin on win 20. I'm actually using office 2007 on my older lap top I put 10 on.

There's no real reason to switch to 10 if 7 is working for you (8 is a different story, IMO and worth the switch due to the improved aesthetics).

However, the one thing you may want to consider is at least getting your current PC registered for Win 10 so you could upgrade to it if you wanted to. After this initial year, upgrades are no longer supposed to be free.

that doesn't mean that Microsoft can't decide to release Win11 in the future and decide to charge for that. and if they want to offer a subscription plan for that upgrade, nothing illegal about that.

Yes, it would be a legal problem if existing Windows 10 installations were to simply stop working without new subscriptions.
Even at that, like Office, Lightroom, and many other products, you will likely have the choice whether to go with a single-purchase standalone or a "subscription" 365 type product.

It all depends on your needs. I have no pressing need to keep Office current. What I have can work with the *.???x files, until some future version of office introduces a new file format that can't be opened by 2010, I'm golden.
Office 95 worked for me for more than enough time, and Office 98 carried me to Office 2010.

I upgraded my old i7 laptop from windows 7 to 10. It was a major mistake. The file explorer on windows 10 is crap. It takes forever to copy files and it would crash or just freeze. I got tired of it an wanted to reinstall windows 7. It said my restore copy was corrupted. It was destroyed by windows 10 install. I got tired of Microsoft BS and installed ubuntu on my laptop instead. Glad to be rid of windows 10.

I didn't want to load Windows 10 after reading about all the security issues with it. Seems MS made 10 a giant piece of malware, reporting back everything including the WiFi password. So I stuffed a spare HD in an older AMD machine and loaded Linux Mint on it. Now I find myself using the Linux machine more that the other 5 Windows 7 and XP machines nearby. Takes a bit of learning, but far faster and more secure than Windows. No more MS for me.
