One of the theories is that it would be easily confused with windows 95 and 98, thus omitted.

This is funny, as I just imaged a thrasher notebook at work, just in case, before the "Win10-trial-by-fire(?)" on it...

I was a windows 7 user, I tried windows 8 and hated it, went right back to windows 7, I installed windows 10 a few months ago to just try it out, I am still using it. I have had no problems and all my programs work just fine, and I have a crap load of software programs. Someone mentioned 10 is slower? This has not been my case at all, I have noticed no slow down at all.

I installed Windows 10 over the weekend on my laptop (same apps as on my desktop PC). So far so good. Typical professional apps work (Adobe Suite, MS Office 2010). Will probably switch over my desktop this weekend and then the office computers last week of the year (when we're closed - best time to troubleshoot if needed).

Why does a major profitable free market corporation offer a $200 software application free of charge?
                    I don't know, but I can speculate.
What I have is good for at least 10 more years.
At that point I will load the free version of Windows 30. ...

Don't. Windows 7 is still good. 10 has problems. Wait until MS gets it right again.

I'm not as hesitant after installing on my laptop. Realistically, I'm going to have to make the switch. Logistically, makes sense for me to do it when my office is closed.

This happened to me with windows 7 all the time, and there was no way to disable it. I have not had this happen once since I have gone to windows 10. Not sure if because they do not do it or if 10 actually gave the option in its update options to not auto-update. I can not remember If I changed a setting. Only that 7 did it all the time and 10 does not, at least that is my experience.

it just restarted 30 minutes ago........annoying as hell. did a few reg edits and blocked Microsoft from restarts and driver updates. i guess i'll see later if its Microsoft doing this or BSOD.

Search the net - there's a way to turn it off (can't stop updates but can stop updates that cause a re-start).
