    Curse you OP

Curse you OP, you made me buy two dashcams after making me take a look at their lineup again.

If you cared, I got two Lukas LK-7950 (type B). Type A has no GPS, Type B has GPS capabilities. Each camera has a memory card, the rear one uses a micro SD card.

Have to think if you want constant power (hardwire) or the cigarette adapter. If you lease the car I recommend getting the cigarette adapter.

I bought one for my wife's car and another for my father-in-law.

The LK-9750 has a touch screen back if you were looking for something like that.

The reason I got two is because I had the LK-5900 duo which I had for over a year. They have accessories to change the lens and also a separate battery pack so that it is constantly recording. There are not many dashcam manufacturers that have this feature. Meaning when the car is armed in a parking lot it can be continuously recording (make sure you have a big SD card) when it got vandalized or an optional mount that swivels to change the viewing angle when you are stopped by law enforcement because of that strawman purchase they wrongfully accused you of when they pull you over in the middle of the desert and decided to pistol whip you for that smirk you gave em.

I have a Lukas (korean) front and rear view camera. Really like it. The first link will show the quality. Their higher end lines actually use a Sony CMOS sensor. Really impressed with what it does. Especially they way they encode the streams. It saves events into a single file, but with multiple streams (overlaying the front camera, rear camera, with/without audio depending on settings, and an optional third stream with GPS coordinates). If using the GPS coordinates, you will have to use their proprietary software which only runs on Windows to have the 3rd stream decoded into a map. In VLC when opening the single AVI file, two windows open up that shows the front and rear camera.

I bought it on ebay, it was shipped 2 days from Korea the manufacturer themselves. I had a question, they were courteous and responded within a day.

When my lease is over, going to have to remove this and installing it on the new one.

There have been times where it has failures to write on the SD memory card (use class 10), but for the most part it has been pretty good. Haven't recorded a meteor or UFO, yet.

I'm experimenting with a dashcam with mixed results. My first requirement was no ugly dashboard growth or illegal windshield hanger. My second was ease of installation, so no running cables for a rear bumper camera. That left rear-view mirror systems. The problem with most, if not all, mirror systems is that they don't function very well as a mirror - most of them are pretty dark, and a few of them are truly fugly. Newegg had the Falcon Zero F360 dual HD mirror mounted system bundled with a 32gb SD card on sale for $110 shipped so I thought I'd give it a try. I chose the F360, not for the dual cams, but because they advertise that their mirror isn't as dark as the competition.

Installation was a breeze because it just clips over your existing rear view mirror and it took about a half hour to route the power cable to a power plug. Using a cigarette lighter plug isn't ideal and will eventually be replaced with a hardwired 5v miniUSB cable. I'd describe the installed mirror/cam with it's dual camera lumps as homely, too homely to keep long-term. It's also only 1080P if you limit it to one camera. Run both and it's limited to 720P recording. I'm just running one camera at 1080P.

So how does it work you ask... Mixed. As a rear view mirror it's fine during the day but it sucks at night with a factory tinted rear window. As a forward dashcam it's just ok by day and pretty good at night but the monitor is only viewable at night. I'll eventually replace it with something better looking and with a better mirror or with a tiny standalone front facing cam, but for now it's doing the job. Note that this system would probably work a lot better in a single cab pickup than it does in a car.

I've been using a Cobra front cam for a few months and would not recommend it - powers off at random intervals. Turns out to be a known problem. Except for this problem it's fine, so maybe there will be a firmware fix eventually.

But what people really need to know is be careful about the "field of view" spec.

A lot of these cameras use the same sensor and chipset, and the FOV is widest at a lower resolution than 1080. After experimenting I run 720 because the 1080 was like looking through a drinking straw and would be dicey in terms of picking up events in other lanes.

So it's worth checking out the (no doubt higher-priced) models that don't have this limitation at 1080.

This is what I have. Not bad. Love the dual cameras.

I just finished installing a BlackVue DR650GW-2CH system and so far, I'm pretty happy with it. 1080p in the front, 720p in the rear...no IR, but it does pretty well on the road with street lights at night. You can set the recording brightness level via software, but not independently for the two cameras. My rear window has a fairly dark factory tint, but even so, it is quite usable at night. GPS, speed, G-force, time...everything is recorded and displayed during playback. It also has both impact and motion-activated recording modes while parked. It comes with a small power controller that monitors your vehicle battery voltage and shuts the camera off once the voltage drops to a preset level (12V or 11.8V) or a preset number of hours that you select to keep from draining your battery.

The software works well, but it can be a little buggy...Windows & Mac, Android & iOS are all supported with slightly less features on the Apple side. The latest camera firmware update requires the Blackvue Cloud version of the mobile app to connect via Wi-Fi, but it is currently only available on Android. The iOS version is supposed to be in the App Store soon. The recorded video files are standard MP4, separate files for front and rear, but desktop software plays them back simultaneously. The mobile apps play one or the other, but allows for quick switching between them during playback.

The Amazon reviews and forum posts have reports of heat related issues and a few other things, some serious, some relatively minor quirks. The only issues I've had have turned out to be my own fault for not reading the manual or website info when I updated the firmware. So far, I'm pretty happy with it in both function and image quality. I'm currently trying to get set up to use the "Blackvue Cloud" which lets you access the camera from anywhere via the Internet and provides cloud storage of video files.

It came with all the cables and mounting materials to do a full, installation with the cables hidden away. I installed it at the same time that I put in a Valentine One radar detector with a concealed remote display with a fixed mount and hidden cables and it all took about two hours including removing and replacing a couple of interior panels and connecting the power.
+1 for BlackVue DR650GW-2CH. I had mine for about 1 year now. No real issues with mine other then a recent issue with my 64gb memory card. The power controller is called Power Magic Pro. Mine set to shut down after 12hrs or when voltage gets to 12v.

no issues with my Garmin Dash Cam 20...its only 1 camera tho, so I have another for the back window. more then a year without any issue, set it and forget it.

Do any of you have rear cameras in trucks? I've been thinking about getting the double camera systems also, but it seems that the mounting is somewhat limited. My factory rear window on the truck also rolls down and is tinted... How strong are the ones that mount on the bumpers?

Been using the cobra for two months since a collision. I was rear ended and the woman who hit me claimed I backed into her!

I called the cops to the scene. Too bad she was driving on a suspended license. She should have kept her mouth closed.

The cobra works great. No issues. Bought it on sale at Costco for $79.00. Has gps and a g meter - records everything in a four hour loop.
