Lets talk about 2 camera dash cams

It' would seem time to install a dash cam, problem is, many problems seem to come from the rear of vehicle.

I'm sure 1080p is right, & night vision should be a concern also.

Dose CG have input on these two camera dash cam systems ?

    Reliability, clarity, small size units.

    Thanks

Subscribed......my only demands are that you can read the license plate in front of you off it......and that the rear camera has infra red so you can see the interior at night. I have been noticing the ones out now that are a rear view mirror replacement....seem like a cool set up where you can view the replay through the mirror. And easy to set up...just most of them are getting iffy reviews on amazon.

I also see iffy reviews, & there's part of the problem.

I found one looks great on youtube review, but on Amazon it took a ding as breaking down in 3 months, seem it was rebooting all the time for the owner/reviewer until it broke completely.

I really like that one (K1S), but negative review coupled with price was a turn off.

      Here's a link to the K1S

I use an app called OsmAnd DVR. I have used it for years. The iPhone does not allow video streams from both cameras simultaneously but some other phones do. But I can switch from the front facing camera to the rear very quickly. It also has G sensor to automatically store the most recent loop in the event of impact or hard braking.

It is a very cool app and the video quality is awesome. You can also enable image stabilization but I haven't found it necessary with a good mount. I use this mount, it works very well http://www.amazon.com/Arkon-Windshie.../dp/B00I58VAZS

*******Group buy list started******** http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=463960 I've been looking for a dashcam style camera for my motorcycle for a bit after seeing a few accident videos posted here and other sites. I bought an HD camera from Chinavasian about 5 years ago.
The rear camera just stopped working the other day, but it worked good up til then.

They don't carry it anymore, but they have new models:

Techmoan does a lot of videos on dashcams.
I don't see a dual camera version after the K1S, which he liked.

I've seen techmoan reviews, many though are kind of old.

Thanks will look into the 1st link.

The quality of some recent cameras I bought is rather poor. So check them thoroughly before purchase.

This site is good for info: https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/

I recommend the Mobius. I have a regular lens in the front and a wide angle in the rear. Doing a clean wiring install takes a little time but is worth it.

I just finished installing a BlackVue DR650GW-2CH system and so far, I'm pretty happy with it. 1080p in the front, 720p in the rear...no IR, but it does pretty well on the road with street lights at night. You can set the recording brightness level via software, but not independently for the two cameras. My rear window has a fairly dark factory tint, but even so, it is quite usable at night. GPS, speed, G-force, time...everything is recorded and displayed during playback. It also has both impact and motion-activated recording modes while parked. It comes with a small power controller that monitors your vehicle battery voltage and shuts the camera off once the voltage drops to a preset level (12V or 11.8V) or a preset number of hours that you select to keep from draining your battery.

The software works well, but it can be a little buggy...Windows & Mac, Android & iOS are all supported with slightly less features on the Apple side. The latest camera firmware update requires the Blackvue Cloud version of the mobile app to connect via Wi-Fi, but it is currently only available on Android. The iOS version is supposed to be in the App Store soon. The recorded video files are standard MP4, separate files for front and rear, but desktop software plays them back simultaneously. The mobile apps play one or the other, but allows for quick switching between them during playback.

The Amazon reviews and forum posts have reports of heat related issues and a few other things, some serious, some relatively minor quirks. The only issues I've had have turned out to be my own fault for not reading the manual or website info when I updated the firmware. So far, I'm pretty happy with it in both function and image quality. I'm currently trying to get set up to use the "Blackvue Cloud" which lets you access the camera from anywhere via the Internet and provides cloud storage of video files.

It came with all the cables and mounting materials to do a full, installation with the cables hidden away. I installed it at the same time that I put in a Valentine One radar detector with a concealed remote display with a fixed mount and hidden cables and it all took about two hours including removing and replacing a couple of interior panels and connecting the power.

                            Thanks Abu

Nice system, but trying not to spend that kind of money, would like to keep in an around $200

                            Here's a link to Abu's system

I have a Lukas (korean) front and rear view camera. Really like it. The first link will show the quality. Their higher end lines actually use a Sony CMOS sensor. Really impressed with what it does. Especially they way they encode the streams. It saves events into a single file, but with multiple streams (overlaying the front camera, rear camera, with/without audio depending on settings, and an optional third stream with GPS coordinates). If using the GPS coordinates, you will have to use their proprietary software which only runs on Windows to have the 3rd stream decoded into a map. In VLC when opening the single AVI file, two windows open up that shows the front and rear camera.

I bought it on ebay, it was shipped 2 days from Korea the manufacturer themselves. I had a question, they were courteous and responded within a day.

When my lease is over, going to have to remove this and installing it on the new one.

There have been times where it has failures to write on the SD memory card (use class 10), but for the most part it has been pretty good. Haven't recorded a meteor or UFO, yet.
