Anybody know Java and need a job?

My department is hiring a Middleware Developer, with a heavy focus on Java and Java related frameworks (e.g. Groovy, Spring). Pay isn't great compared to private sector, but the benefits are excellent and the work environment isn't cutthroat.

As far as I know, as I am writing this, no interviews have yet to take place.

Would they be looking to give someone an internship-to-hire? Like let's say 3 months working as an intern and then get hired as a FT employee?
I work mostly in Ruby/RoR and did work a bit in Java but haven't done anything for a while and had just ordered a book on getting back into it again and doing some revision.

    Thanks!

Nope, the job description is pretty much what they want. Need someone to hit the ground running.

No worries, thank you. I'll see in 2 weeks if it's still available and apply. I should have a better grasp by then.
