I use pfsense machines at home and at work with ubiquiti access points. I've heard good things about the asus routers in general though.Comment

PfSense is a good choice, too. It's basically FreeBSD with the PF from OpenBSD bolted onto it. We used it at a former place of work. One of the guys was a big FreeBSD fan, and he turned me onto it. I told him about my experience with OpenBSD, and he got this big grin and said, "OK, you know what's going on then, so this is basically the GUI for that." And it is.
I've recently been playing with a Juniper J2320 router. Those are good choices, too. Like Cisco's 2821, they're enterprise-grade, durable, and will do just about anything you'd need doing with a broadband router. But Cisco 2821's are more plentiful and thus lower-priced, plus more documentation's out for IOS (complete with broadband configuration examples), so I'd lean that way."San Francisco Liberal With A Gun"

Consumer grade - I've had good luck with Zyxels.
However, if you don't mind a bit of a learning curve, the advice above about used Cisco routers is solid. They can be found fairly cheap (especially compared with what you're getting for your money), powerful, they last for decades (literally), and they're modular. Also, some things (memory, for example) you can upgrade yourself fairly cheap (old type RAM), thus improving the performance even more. Their firewall capabilities are rudimentary (and they aren't optimized for packet inspection), but it's more than adequate for what a home setup normally is.DiaHero Foundation - helping people manage diabetes.
