    Windows 8/8.1 REAL start button

For those of you who are still struggling with the total piece of crap Windows 8 /8.1 start button, go to www.classicshell.net and install that - you'll get a REAL Windows 7 start button and menu again so you can go back to using your computer like normal.
    Thanks,
    Marc

At this point, just wait for Windows 10 and the Start button returns.

YEah but the file explorer is all jacked. IT HAS to move every damn thing to the middle or to the left, it does not remember where I last downloaded something when I open a new browser window, and really this **** should have been fixed by now. I am still trying to figure out how I got 800MB of free space on my 26GB drive... Some damn folder keeps growing inside winblows.

It's the same crap start button that 8.1 has, so the Classic Shell software is still worth using.

Your boot drive is only 26 gigs? Why?

            No, actually, it's not.

I thought you said you'd been using the tech preview?

Seemed to me it was, but I didn't do much more than fire it up, see that it was pretty much Win 8 and delete the VM.
              Thanks,

Yeah. Win 10 has a real start menu again.

It has - by default - the live tiles on it, but it's exactly a start menu again, and you can turn off the live tiles.

If it wasn't for Classic Shell, I wouldn't be using win 8.1. Right after loading 8.1 I went looking for a solution to the start menu.

10 has too many privacy/security issues for me to trust and we know MS can never have a hit right off the bat. Even XP needed service packs and updates to fix what was missed when it was released. I will let others give it a nice run before I jump on the band wagon.

8.1 isn't near perfect, but with classic shell, it is usable and runs better than XP did even when my last computer was new. When XP was dumped I decided to build a mini desktop rather than try to run a new OS on a 6-8 year old computer.

                  great recommendation OP
