Has anyone found a better file manager for Windows 7?

I am so sick of this stupid explorer.

I do not understand why I never had to deal with it at the City but now when I load up windows 7 here it is all screwy.

I HATE that if I click on a file folder or file on the RIGHT side (like double click to open the file or folder) it will use my FIRST click to move that file/folder to the left (scroll over) and then I have now clicked on a different file. So I have to go BACK and click on the original file again (double click).

Then it seems that it has a problem auto expanding the folder on the left side when I navigate to it on the right side in the file viewer portion. Now I have to EXPAND each branch manually...

I HATE that Windows 7 FAILS to remember that EVEN THOUGH I SAID MAKE ALL FOLDERS LIKE THIS, I still have to change ALL folders to view in LIST instead of icons.

I HATE this DAMN WinSXS folder that is constantly growing no matter what. It is supposed to be for updates but it seems to grow by a gig or so each week or few days. As of last Thursday I had 8+ GB of free space now I am down to 1.67 GB. WTF? I will load CCleaner now and see if it helps any.

I HATE that this stupid Internet Explorer 11 has ADHD or something. I click on a website and it tells me it is not responding, so I have to WAIT and if i IGNORE IE 11 wanting me to recover the web page then the site will finally respond. But it is like IE 11 is so damn hyper it just has no patience.

I know, I need to tweak it some so I am still working on getting out the bugs but damn why did MS screw of the damn Windows Explorer at least? They could have left the damn file and folder size ALONE for those of us that used it instead of removing it completely.

There are some other things going on too, but I am working on them.

I wonder if my beloved Z-Tree still works...

Am I missing something here besides the Wahhhmbulance?

thats a bug that erk'd me too, t he whole right click/auto scroll side to side.. just compensate and use cut/paste, key in the file/folder name more to hit the eact one vs mouse click.

all folders is a bug. need to clear a reg key and add another THEN apply all folders and it'll take..

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags]
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\All Folders\Shell]
    "FolderType"="NotSpecified"

disable windows updates, doesn't fix anything.. always breaks more and slows your system down.

run chrome, or stop using the internet get rid of java if you dont HAVE to have it. use foxit pdf since its a tad safer than adobe

    tree file size free/pro, windows key + e, windows key + r a lot..

worst case, switch to like xyplorer

    also use terracopy

Sweet! Thanks! ****ing MS... I hate to say it but Windows 7 reminds me of why I had not purchased anything MS since DOS 3.2...

I do not feel that ripped since it only cost me $25 but it is still a PITA and needs to be tweaked to work right.

I was looking at xyplorer and maybe adding terra copy again but I need to find a good stand alone copy queue program. Terra copy does not do it for me... It bogs down too I think. I might have to switch over to Chrome, but not without ghostery. Damn MS... My BDR killed itself too. I guess it did not like windows 7 either so now I gotta go buy another burner to finish archiving stuff. OR maybe switch back to winblows XP and see if the burner works again. J/K, no, it makes weird noises and failed to finish burning a disk in the middle two days ago. I had to purchase an LG (ewww) drive. I think it was an LG anyways. There are not very many blur-ray burners out there that act as internal drives. I wonder why. You can buy an Asus, Pioneer, or 6 different models from LG, so really there are only about TWO drives out there... :\

Yes, ZTree is alive and well in the Windows 7 world. Kim is always updating/tweaking it. There is a 64bit version. Best to pay up and get the latest version.

If you want to stay with Windows 7, then I'd suggest KDE for Windows. Konqueror, the file manager / Web browser that comes with it, is my favourite file manager, regardless of operating system.

Since it is a KDE file manager, not only do you get all the normal goodness of Konqueror's file management (e. g. split views), you also can do URL's like this.

          sftp://my.SSH-speaking.host.tld
          cifs://my.Windows.Server.tld

It's just another type of URL. Makes things very easy.

Yes, KDE for Windows also comes with Dolphin, but I find Konqueror much more feature-filled and thus much more useful.

I have never seen that behavior but I guess since my default view is "details" everything is in a vertical row and I don't see any scrolling action.

just tried it in an icon view and I still don't see that behavior.

check the folder options and you'll never have to deal with it again.

I even set up a GPO at work to set that for all the domain computers.

for someone who doesn't seem to like MS very much, I figured you'd be on Chrome or Firefox.

I have taken on Roy's approach. If everyone else likes it, it is no longer cool and I hate it... :\

Thanks for the options, The expansion works well.

If I have let's say, a folder with maybe around, 40 other folders and 300 files in it and I open it up and I default to LIST view because if I need to know the size of something, by simple selecting it, it would be displayed in the status bar (in XP) but if I need to know the size of a folder then I would right click it and look at properties. but now, I have a folder that had all kinds of sub folders and files mixed in and I was going through them all and I found that if I click on a folder that is (while in list view) on the right side of the screen, instead of just selecting it, it shifts or scrolls over to the right so the folder is now on the center column. That really sucks because for years I have been double clicking that folder and going right on, now it single clicks me twice instead of giving me my double click. Since I have a lot of stuff that needs to be sorted out, it messes me up while trying to navigate and select files to move around as well. But at least I have the folder display on the left again.

I do NOT like having to run this SHELL addon to make this like classic windows XP file manager and I REALLY hate that ever folder that I go to now has to be changed to LIST view. When I told XP to make ALL folders list view it listened. That pissed me off that it ignores that with me. I will do that reg trick and see what it affects too.

As far as I am concerned, I now want file copy queueing. MS has beat around the bush long enough, there is no excuse for not having copy queueing by now.

copy paste, rename as reg.. SHOULD work, sometimes windows gets borky and treats it as a text file or binary file..

I did that but maybe I missed something... Winblows told me it was not a registry file or something like that... Windows is acting like a douche. I tried to rename the file to .reg adn then double click it and I was told that I needed to be within the registry editor to import it since it is not a proper script.

SO I opened regedit and then it said that something was an invalid key so it thumbed its nose at me.

                    Yeah oh well...

My eyes are heavy. I am gonna go to bed. I will see what its issue is tomorrow hopefully.

I do like the image editing now At least they fixed that.

                      It's called a Mac...

It will even correct lazy spelling habits such as "prolly"...

The only MAC that I want in MY home is some muther****ing MAC and CHEESE with BACON...

Bro I aint a startrek fan so there are no MACS that are needed over here. I do not have a startrek screen saver that needs to be displayed faster then anything else... oKAY? Besides, I prefer a computer that let's me have granular control even if I have to wrestle with it from time to time.

I forgot that Windows wants to see a header in the file. That was my issue. It has been taken care of though. Pretty dumb I think but Usually I have not had to copy and paste reg files.

Thanks for that and all of the help. I always appreciate everyone's input, even jokers that pop up like a ferret on Viagra and yell out to get a MAC because they will give you world dominance or something, whatever.

A MAC. LoL... I needed the comedy for today I guess.

Too bad a MAC would not allow me to beef up my RH92... now if a MAC could do that or have some simple CAD program then maybe I would go ask my cousin in Jersey to follow a truck till one falls off and then ship it to me, but they can't and they don't so it aint gonna be...
