My son just saved and built (well, upgraded) his Pentium D into a quad-core i5, and slapped in a Radeon R9 270X 2GB video card. I got him the motherboard last Christmas.

You can't do that with just over ~$600 on a notebook, or almost any Mac (or a LOT of proprietary all-in-ones, or hell... many brand-name machines these days with non-removable I/O shields).
